Romo made Bryant just like he made Crayton, Robinson, Austin, etc. None of them did anything after they were Romo-less.

He’s too small to be an effective tight end.
^ This. And there are Mike McCarthy's previous comments about the position:

https://247sports.com/nfl/green-bay...rs-tight-end-position-is-difficult-119081981/

[Excerpt] “The tight end position in this offense is difficult. I think that goes understated, frankly. The tight end position, outside of the quarterback and the center and guards, the volume of responsibility is significant. Obviously, they have run-game responsibility. They’re multiple position players, so they have formation variation responsibility. So with that, they have characteristic traits being in the backfield, being out of the backfield, being extended as a receiver, and then obviously the pass game, route running and route-running principle responsibilities.

It’s a very diverse job responsibility for those guys.”

******************

McCarthy has retained Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator, so it is understood elements of the past season's offensive scheme will be kept also. However, there is no reason to believe McCarthy will not instill some of his offensive philosophy into this offense too.

One would expect McCarthy has personal expectations of personnel at the position. Bryant would need to bulk up and take a crash course of Tight End 101 to meet expected requirements. Why would anyone anticipate Bryant saying he can be a tight end in this offense in February and project him performing adequately by training camp?

Too much Madden.

Just a reminder, Dez was actually right about Garrett.
LOL!

That’s not saying much, since almost everybody who follows pro football was right about Garrett...except for @8 guys on this board and Jerry Jones, who happens to own the team and chose to hire JG’s sorry ***.

Too bad he didn’t make Roy Williams #11. Wouldn’t have wasted all those draft picks and then still have to use yet another #1 draft pick for Dez in 2010.

he looks good now.

he’s healthy.

and he’s a beast.
He looks good? Where did you see him?

He could be healthy, but in football shape to play like he used too? Hard to believe that's true.

Did he suddenly learn how to run routes? Another big question.

Right and Dez took a lot of heat for those tweets. The guy was one of the many Garrett scapegoats

Leg fractures and an Achilles tear will do that.

he’s healthy now.

not a lot of miles on that frame either.

I’m sure they will look at everything.

Ya and tell me all of the players who were average or below the last time they played and missed two complete seasons for whatever reason were seriously considered for anything. It's not like the last time Bryant played he was something other than a one trick pony and didn't even do that so hot anymore. If Bryant's last playing was like pre 2014 then yes maybe there would be some interest but he wasn't. Now all he is, is a washed up player who still has dreams of being relevant again.

Coming from that reputable news source, TMZ. I'm sure McCarthy is relieved to hear this and will send them a gift basket for this breaking news story.

Dez Bryant the player that was supposedly always open from 2010-2014. All you had to do was “throw the ball up” and he would “go and get it”.

Then in 2015, he needed perfectly thrown balls. Even balls that hit him in the face mask were suddenly too off target for him to reel in.

Is he willing to play on a one year, prove it, vet minimum contract?

Dez was right about Garrett, but that doesn't make Dez less of a pain the butt, as seen on All or Nothing. At some point the talent did not match the level baby sitting required to have him on the roster.

Let him play tight end. He will be a red zone threat. Could get 8 TDS from him real cheap
Dez worst years with the Cowboys 2015-2017 he scored 17 TDs. His last 2 years would have tied Cowboys receivers in TDs over the last 2 years. Jason Witten produced 9 TDs his last 2 years.

Bryant can play a Shannon Sharpe type roll (HB/WR/TE) in any offense (see Sharpe's last 4 years in Baltimore and Denver respectively). You can get production from a play maker that produces. He is a huge upgrade over Noah Brown. So let them compete for that spot.

They give certain retread off the field problem players without Dez Cowboy pedigree a chance all the time.

"If 88 -- the X factor -- wants a shot, we gotta give him a shot," (Demarcus) Lawrence said. "[The] Cowboys are home to Dez, and he's always accepted in my book."

Bring him back just for the Giants games and line him up next to their sideline.
