She’s not.

You’ve only made it your crusade to keep pointing it out.

There are literally of horrible calls, non-calls every week. Do you make it a point to say “this male referee blew the call.”

Refs generally suck. Being a male or female doesn’t inherently make you exempt or more prone to making bad call.
Agreed. Not a good luck to keep saying ’that female ref.’ Intentional or not, sounds like she’s being singled out for as chocolate lab put it… her ovaries. LOL

Exactly... people that speak that way clearly don't have wives, daughters, or girlfriends... and if they do, they're being held against their will LOL

If the Cowboys get the tripping called against the Lions, they get a first down inside the Lions 15. From there they just run the ball 3 times taking about 95 seconds off the clock. They kick the FG and Detroit has about 30 seconds and not time outs to go the length of the field and score a TD. But the point is, if the Cowboys are not pushed back 15 yards, the play calling is very different and the outcome of the game is very different. What is troublesome is Hendershot never even put a leg out for any reason. How did the refs see that as tripping? Someone on that crew has really bad eyesight and needs to find a new job.
Another poster mentioned earlier that it’s a mistake to allow both teams to wear white pants. Maybe that contributed to the mistake on the tripping call? I thought it was an interesting comment.

He has a good point. I know I would struggle with that. Does the NFL even check color blindness or vision issues?

The funny thing is, until the last two minutes of the game, the referees were actually good in this game. They let the players play, and did not insert themselves into the game. But, boy, did they screw up the Hendershot trip and the reporting snafu.
I really was impressed with them until they made up that call. They need to be downgraded to the unemployment line. That was ridiculous.

Unlike some here I see no conspiracy just institutional incompetence at all levels. NFL for not having higher standards for refs; refs for being incompetent; NFL for constantly changing the rules and emphasizing some over others; rules being too technical not realistic; and the officials that screw up again and again NOT BEING FIRED.

Yeah it’s like they waited for the most important part of the game to get incompetent. But if they didn’t screw up the hendershot call then more than likely there is no 2 point conversion to screw up.
So they waited until the most important part of the game to get incompetent. That smells like crookedness to me.

Makes sense. That botched tripping penalty that almost cost Dallas the game was egregious!

Ya it’s great they’re showing it, but they’re the ones who beat the drum on that 2-point play after the game. Like somehow the Lions were robbed. They completely ignored the other flags in the play. I actually turned off SVP it got so bad.
I can't believe you turned on SVP. the man with the face for radio.

Um, I only said that because I was replying to CPT's sarcastic post that "I guess she shouldn't be allowed to be a ref because she has ovaries."

Of course that part got deleted.

The issue is that's simply not a threat to the refs. Most of them have very very high paying day jobs, they lose nothing if they get fired and they'll just get replaced by the same type of no-accountability part time amateur hobbyist.

The system the NFL has just breeds incompetence. I can tell you right now being the #3 guy in a company that employs about 200 people that when you don't have any upwards management, review and accountability people simply don't put forth as much effort to be competent.

It's insane that a corporation as rich as the NFL does not have professional, full time refs that are vetted and hired specifically for the job, not allowed to hold other employment, trained extensively with management review and compensated very well for their position, enough that they won't want to lose the position.

Until you get accountable, professional refs, this stuff is just going to keep happening to every team.

Throughout the course of any NFL game, it's really hard for the refs to be perfect on every play. There's not enough of them to see every player matchup every second to get every call correct.

I know we all like to think it's easy to get every call right because we're staring at a TV screen with a broader angle, and then we see the replays. But if any of us were refs, we damn sure wouldn't be perfect either standing on the field and trying to keep up with players who are moving all over the field.

So, the NFL needs more refs who are watching from different angles and watching different matchups, and these can be "remote" refs sitting in a studio (or even at home). And they should be able to make their own calls (or can reverse other calls & pick up flags). So for every NFL game, you may need like 4 to 8 more remote refs who can seamlessly buzz into the Crew Chief at a moment's notice. And for the playoffs, have even more refs, more eyes in the sky, to try to get each play right.

And make every flag reviewable, letting the coach challenge whatever they want.

Certainly all of the above will slow down the games, but I think as players and fans, we'd rather they get it right in realtime (even if it requires more stoppages), as opposed to having the game end 15 to 30 minutes sooner.

With all the technology we have available, it's time for a change...especially in the playoffs.

Did the female ref call that stupid tripping penalty?
