Bradie James on why Texans are better than Cowboys

Longtime former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bradie James may not be playing at Jerryworld on Thanksgiving, but he's still got a big Turkey Day game.

The new Houston Texans starter is playing against the Detroit Lions in the early game, and he's thankful for the lack of "distractions" on his new team. NFL.com's Albert Breer asked James in Detroit on Wednesday what the difference is between playing for the Texans and playing for the Cowboys.

"It's the organization as a whole and that starts with (Texans owner) Bob McNair and his approach," James said. "He's not on TV every week. I mean, it is what it is. He's around, and it starts with that guy. With the owner, that trickles down to everyone, from the players to the equipment manager. You really gotta see it to believe it."

Carter and Lee don't seem distracted by Jerry. But that's because they're infinitely more talented than Bradie.

I grew up watching those Cowboys teams, and I can tell you, Tex was on tv...sometimes. Not anywhere close to the amount JJ is on tv. JJ has a tv show he's on twice a week?!?!?

Many interviews and then he gives his player evaluations right after games have concluded. Tex never did that either.

I hate how JJ does player evaluation without film review directly following a game. I don't understand how he can have the nerve to do that without looking at the film to see everything on the field.

I would wonder if, for example, players go over the coaches head directly to JJ so they don't have to pay a team fine when they break team rules.

His comments don't lead directly to messing up a play, but they may have an overall effect of not having to worry about not playing well, not following team rules, etc because they know they can go to JJ and he will nullify the fine.

Maybe this doesn't happen any more, but I'm not sure. I did at some point.

He's playing on a team on the rise and he's a starter. He was actually pretty diplomatic about his comments. Most of the comment is positive about the Texans owner, rather than about JJ specifically.He hardly sounds "disgruntled".
While I think we are better at ILB, I have no beefs about his effort, nor would I question his character. JJ loves the spotlight and he admits it. Is it a distraction? Yes. Is his recent record as a GM pretty dismal? Yes. Does it mean much to our current team? No and it means little for Bradie James. I'm happy for the guy and I'm happy that we have Lee and Carter.

Constantly being in the spotlight (interviewed after every game) undermines the coaches power. Players know that if they are in Jerry's good books, it makes no difference what the head coach thinks.

What he said here isn't stupid it's true, he would know to having been in both organizations. The article has nothing to do with James' talent, that's a separate issue.

I grew up watching them too. Tex had the Dallas Cowboys Weekly Show every week, plus he did plenty of interviews. At that time there was not nearly the media coverage available that there is now, or he would have been interviewed even more. Tex was all about publicity and getting the Cowboys in front of the media every chance he got. The only difference is that Tex was a little more careful about what he said. I'm not defending JJ as a GM, nor am I saying that he doesn't say stupid things. I'm just saying that the comments he makes do not mean that the players can "go over the coach's head" about breaking team rules or anything of the sort. Is it possible that they do feel like they can do that? Yes it's possible. But if they feel that way, it's not because he talks on tv, it's because word through the grapevine tells them they can.
Personally I wish Jerry would be a lot more careful about what he says in public about the players just because I don't like the way his comments make the team look bad at times, but I don't believe they affect the players on the field.

The same ego that has our owner all over TV every week is what also leads him to pretend he's a GM, his son is a VP of Personnel and that won't ever change in his lifetime.

Exactly. It's clear as day the cowboys are a circus and Bradie has said it for years and idiots on here attacked him for not drinking the kool aid.


All you ripping him saying he's done are clueless. He leads the texans team in tackles this year and Wade is using him a lot better than Ryan did.

I live in Houston and wish the cowboys were run like the texans. No distractions at all and training camp in 1 location at HOME!.
