Bradie James on why Texans are better than Cowboys

He's playing on a team on the rise and he's a starter. He was actually pretty diplomatic about his comments. Most of the comment is positive about the Texans owner, rather than about JJ specifically. He hardly sounds "disgruntled".
While I think we are better at ILB, I have no beefs about his effort, nor would I question his character. JJ loves the spotlight and he admits it. Is it a distraction? Yes. Is his recent record as a GM pretty dismal? Yes. Does it mean much to our current team? No and it means little for Bradie James. I'm happy for the guy and I'm happy that we have Lee and Carter.

Team moved on without him, of course he is. It's only natural.

Bradie James said stupid things as a Cowboy and is saying stupid things now. Jerry Jones being on TV did not make Bradie James a below average linebacker later in his career in Dallas.

Carter and Lee don't seem distracted by Jerry. But that's because they're infinitely more talented than Bradie.
:post:

Five bucks says if the Texans were 5-5 and we were 9-1 TV time for an owner wouldn't matter. He knew what would sell controversy. He's not as good as the guys who replaced him.

Didn't see the video.

But judging from responses he said something that fits an agenda around here.

I wonder if Bradie knows the fan base.

Also how much differently do you think these people playing football treat their job just like people you work with?

I'm sure there are guys that go over the coaches head, but you'd be naive to think it only happens in Dallas.

If you take Bradie's words literally and try to pigeon-hole them into a meaning that creates an opportunity for derision, then yes, your comments are correct.

I disliked James as a player and made no bones about that. But I also am not the type of fan to then extrapolate my disregard for his play to him as a human being.

He is correct there is a difference in franchises. He is correct being on TV makes a difference.

But that TV appearances, interviews and foisting himself on the world as the face of the team is the spearhead for what is wrong, and not the sum total of the troubles Dallas has.

It is a mind set for Jones. He is the star of the show and the most important piece of the puzzle, in his mind.

And while people parse out the Jerry Jones we know to make bite size anecdotal comments, to then knock down because they are straw men, the real truth is simple.

He wants to be the focus of the franchise.
He undermines the head coach because he is the GM.
You cannot separate GM from owner.
He lets it be known he makes all final decisions. The tie-breaker.
He has no training being a GM.
He did not earn his stripes, but bought into his job.

I think of the film Citizen Kane and am reminded of Jerry.

Kane's girlfriend was an opera singer, and not very good at all. Kane so desired to show the world he could make a star he built an opera house and featured her.

The critics tore her up.

But Kane was undeterred. He kept after it until she quit singing.

Jones is intent to let the world know he is the reason for the Super Bowls Dallas won. He is so possessed with the memory of Jimmy past that every machination he does is to promote Jones as the center of the Cowboy universe.

I have to say I was ready for Landry to go. I thought the game had passed him by, and the components of Landry, Schramm, Brandt had seen their time.

I welcomed Jones and Jimmy.

Be careful what you wish for.

The Super Bowls may not have been enough.

Can you give me an example of when Jerry being on TV affected a play in a game?

I love the game what if. As a writer I play that game all the time.

So...

What if Jerry grew a brain and hired Eliot Wolf as the GM starting next year?

What if he brought in a competent head coach, as well?

What if Wolf rebuilt the offensive line like Jerry did the corner backs this past year?

What if Wolf got a WR that could take Austins place and moved Miles to the slot?

What if Wolf signed a stud pass rusher that would come from the Almost Anthony side and could hang up double digit sacks?

Then win or lose you would not hear a peep from me in disagreement. Because the team was actually addressing issues and not scatter-shooting in between press conferences and shooting a local TV show.

But what if is a game that Jerry doesn't know how to play.

I can play that game too Hos, just like you did.

And neither of us were speaking about Reality. Either on this board or with the Cowboys.

It doesn't make one iota of difference. Not one. There are legit criticisms of Jerry Jones. This is one that people grasp at when they don't what the legitimate ones are.

What if the Cowboys capitalize on the weak schedule left in front of them?

What if they get some injured players back and get stronger?

What if two of these injured players protect Tony Romo and one of them makes us a 2 dimensional Offense again?

What if we win the NFC due to these things?

What if once in the Playoffs we beat a team or two and make a respectable effort at it?

What if this next off season Jason Garrett asks Tom Ciskowski and staff to find the missing pieces of the OL like they found the missing pieces of the Secondary?

What if Cowboys fans had to actually applaud their team again?

You're right. This is fun. Want to know the biggest difference between your scenario and mine? Reality, and I don't mean the owner of this site. A much smaller difference would be the number of people here who would have to grudgingly give the GM credit because they have pointedly said "never again" while he is GM.

Meanwhile I won't have to. I give him no credit for the previous 3 Super Bowls and I won't if we shock the world again. Not for the personnel. I'll give him credit for hiring the right coach. That's it for me just like when he hired Jimmy.

What will Bradie James explanation be then I wonder? That might be a fun what if game too.

So Jones appearing on tv affected how James played poorly?

No accountability?

And why is the Texans' owner even referenced? Shouldn't he be talking about the GM or head coach's approach?

Bluestang;4853391 said:

That would be a very cavemanish explanation of it.

The owner's desire to be on TV leads to things like the owner's desire to being the face of the team, the GM, the walk around coach, the circus, the personnel department headed by a fraud offspring.

Those things lead to bad play on the field.

No accountability?

The accountability with this team begins at head coach. Whereas in sane NFL cities it begins with the GM.

That a pretty significant problem.

And why is the Texans' owner even referenced? Shouldn't he be talking about the GM or head coach's approach?

No. The problem in Dallas is the owner. He's the one who creates the GM issue and weak-willed head coaches. He's the cancer, the other is the symptom. If you want to really fix this team, you need to remove the cancer.

But that can never happen in his lifetime.

And that is the cold hard reality of this football team.

WHAT????

I grew up watching those Cowboys teams, and I can tell you, Tex was on tv...sometimes. Not anywhere close to the amount JJ is on tv. JJ has a tv show he's on twice a week?!?!?

Many interviews and then he gives his player evaluations right after games have concluded. Tex never did that either.

I hate how JJ does player evaluation without film review directly following a game. I don't understand how he can have the nerve to do that without looking at the film to see everything on the field. :(

Your exactly right. If the punter had a 15 yard average, our idiot owner would praise him for playing hard. Jerry is a joke.

Attacking the messenger doesn't make what he said any less truthful.

He's 100% correct.

for him to be 100% correct the texans need to back that up on the field.

mcnair has owned that team for a long time now and they have been fairly miserable for most of his ownership.

the texans are better than the cowboys right this second because they have better players. they haven't proven to be a better franchise though.

Bradie just stop....

You sucked, nobody wanted you here anymore. You lost your legs and were a liability. Now we have Middle Linebackers that you wish you could be, don't be sour.

There are 30 teams with "REAL GMs" who finish each year as disappointed as Jerry Jones has all but 3 times.

Of the active GM's Jerry has the most Lombardis.

We can hire any available GM and still suck next year. Had we signed Carl Nicks and drafted David DeCastro as many wanted we'd still be starting Derrick Dockery right now. Those guys are as injured as Costa. And as an added bonus we'd be giving up 350 yards passing each week.

I wouldn't trade our last couple drafts with any team in the NFL.
To me that means Jerry is letting people do their job.

I could care absolutely less how much a whiny fan base likes someone. I only care about the talent level improving from each draft and each FA season.

Provided Jerry isn't making RW11 trades he has absolutely zero effect on me or my enjoyment of the team.
