I agree, and he did lay a heck of a hit on the guy, so I can see a little excess adrenaline pumping...

Sorry Rack, unless you are talking about a completely different play, Theo is right on this one.Rack;1610700 said:That's fine. Celebrate when you actually stop the offense, not after they got a first down (or close to it).
lurkercowboy;1610561 said:How about the play Bradie James made against a Texans where he had a tackle for a six-yard loss on a running play. He met the RB deep in the backfield. Overall, I think James is playing much better this preseason than he did last year. What does everyone else think?
Do you think this defensive scheme is better suited to James abilities?
theogt;1610724 said:The RT came down inside because Spears shot that gap. He was only doing his job -- blocking Spears. That's simply an advantage of the 1-gap system. You can dictate what the offensive line does, which makes these sorts of blitzes actually work.
But anywho, I don't think any of their linemen screwed up.
That's good. But it still isn't rationalization for celebrating that you just allowed a 9 yard completion. (Not James, but the team). I think Roy was giving him the kill sign at the end...."he caught the ball, dude"
I guess there's a thin line between being a vocal, hard-hitting leader and being a tool for celebrating too much. I'm often confused as to why either is necessary.

Also, I wonder how long will the fans here continue to minimize James improvement? Perhaps when he makes the probowl this year the skeptics will run and hide. Quite simply it was a very good play, which was based solely on a great pre-snap read.
The RT blocked Spears on the play.Rack;1610953 said:No, he wasn't. He didn't block anyone on the play.
The RG blocked down to the NT. That was presumably his responsibility. Only after the RG recognized that the NT was shooting the gap between the OC and the LG did he turn and block Spears. By then the RT was already blocking Spears. The RT screwed up. Since Spears shot inside, the RG had him, and the RT should of picked up James.
No, it's blatantly obvious that the RT was doing exactly as he was assigned. There are two explanations: (1) both the RT and RG screwed up, or (2) both the RT and RG blocked as assigned. It doesn't make sense for the RG to be assigned to block inside to the NT (as he did when the ball was snapped) and the RT to be assigned to block outside, leaving the LDE with no blockers.I think it's pretty obvious the RT screwed up.
That's not a stunt. Bradie was stacked behind Spears. Spears shot the gap to the right and Bradie shot the gap to the left. That's just pure and simple 1-gap assignment. There was no stunting involved.Rack;1610970 said:What?!@
I think even theo would agree that a "pre snap read" had nothing to do with it. We ran a stunt (DE went inside, James went outside) and it worked. He was gonna do that stunt regardless, it had nothing to do with a presnap read.
You could say that the FB was running like a robot.superpunk;1610992 said:You might could blame the FB, who ran right past Bradie James, lol.

That's true. He was running directly to the hole he was supposed to hit, and never bothered to even look at Bradie, even though Bradie was in there so fast he could have tackled the FB if he wanted to.theogt;1610996 said:You could say that the FB was running like a robot.

The link shows the close up play that you're referring to. If you had actually watched the link, you'd know that. Then again, if you had actually watched the link, you'd have stopped arguing by now.Rack;1611011 said:I'll gladly admit when I'm wrong.
