Steve McIntyre has submitted an article to the Journal of Sports Analytics about "a previously unnoticed scientific error in the technical analysis included in the Wells Report on Deflategate."

The article and comments is at his website: Climate Audit.

I tried to understand McIntyre's report and I think I go the gist of it.

His problem is going to be the ball that reached 10.5 PSI. And the people that use IDL (which again, is not entirely accurate at lower temperatures) have given it a range for margin of error that would explain any additional loss...basically stating that the average PSI of the footballs was not statistically significantly below IDL projections to account for human error in measurement, etc.

But, the 10.5 PSI ball has to raise questions because in the end, if 1 ball was tampered with, that's still cheating.

Plus, McIntyre doesn't get the point....Brady is being suspended for not cooperating with league investigators. I'm amazed how many scientists keep completely neglecting that point.

And then you have the texts which show a routine conspiracy between Brady, McNally and Jastremski to illegally deflate footballs for roughly 1 year. Combine that with the 10.5 PSI ball and let's face it...gaseous physics in a football is far from an exact science...I think McIntyre is too bold in claiming that this is a closed and shut case.

I'm going to go ahead and admit I was completely wrong on this. I thought there was no way they would go back and suspend him after they lifted it last year.
