Brandin Cooks contract restructured

I think I read somewhere before this restructure happened that he was under contract and fairly cheap next year as well. Around $13 million or something. Anybody have any insight into what his next year number will cost the Cowboys if they keep him?

I mean....it would push 4 mill onto next year if I am reading this right. But he would only be 4 mill dead cap if they cut him next year.

Or they could extend him if he was open to it.

This is another head scratcher.

I read reports he’s willing for next year

I think you are correct about that cap number next year

Looks like base is $8mil for 2024, saw somewhere cap hit is $10mil.

So it appears that we added two void years since his base is reduced to $4 million and we're paying him $6 million this year. That would mean the $8 million bonus is prorated over four years while he's only under contract for two. Considering it would then cost us $6 million to cut him next year, I'd expect them to offer an extension if he plays well. If not, we take the $6 million hit (which we would have had to absorb anyway) and save $16 million against the cap.

OK. That's interesting. It appears we lowered his cap hit for next year as well. So we might not try to extend him, just paying him $10 million next year and taking a $4 million hit the following year for his prorated bonus. Again, it probably depends on how he pays, as we could lower that $10 million hit with an extension, but not sure how much you want to extend a 30-plus receiver.
