Cowboys officials were not happy about Greg Hardy’s tasteless tweet about the Twin Towers during the draft.

But ask Brandon Carr how the defensive end has looked in the early stages of the team’s offseason program and he can’t stop smiling.

“You need guys that come and bring that added fire and passion,” Carr said. “It’s always contagious. It really gets guys going out there.

“It’s something I hope we can use to our advantage this year.”

Hardy faces a 10-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy that he hopes to reduce on appeal. At the moment, all Carr and his new teammates know is the edge Hardy brings to the practice field.

“I think he’s going to be an asset once we get him on the field,” Carr said. “I think he has a good motor for a big guy.

“I love his attitude, his mentality right now. He takes it serious when he’s out there on that field. When he’s locked in, he gets after it pretty good.

“That’s something we need. He has that demeanor you ask of a defensive lineman that likes to get after the quarterback.”

Likely, but not necessarily.

The man delivers on the pitch, gets in no more (suspendable) trouble, makes good in the locker room and the coaching staff- then averages a sack or two a game in the process= I doubt he leaves unless Gregory and Lawrence just blow up and even then I can see them giving a LARGE contract that protects him through the DL rookies contracts and protect the team when it's time to resign the rookies (who hopefully do what they are supposed to do).

Oh yeah- I can definitely see it, but things gotta happenz fiz-irst. Yup. I'm bringing it biz-ack.

I'm actually more of a fan of Hardy and Lee together. Hardy has the attitude, Lee has the determination. That sets a bar. And let's not forget, this defense showed both f those things last year from time to time. Sadly, there just wasn't enough talent. Talent is the determining factor at the end of the day.

We'll have the cash to retain him. I think he's going to be a well-liked player in Dallas, and I think he's going to like it here. This defense has really needed playmakers with a bit of swagger for a couple of years now. I think we'd be his first choice if the season is a good one. The bigger question is whether we'd want to pony up that kind of cash with the distractions he brings along with him, and that we can't really answer until we see what he delivers on the field. As it stands, though, he makes our DL into a strength where it was a liability last season.

Man, I hope you two like-minded brethren are right. If this does go down like you two suspect... man-o-man! And to think if Gregory works out too; might as will forget Doomsday Defense, because it will be renamed the Death Squad!

I pity the fool!

Romac and Hardy together... that is a heck of a lot of attitude! lol

Good point bro- I have said it before and will say it again... If teams in the NFL wants to be elite, they must have players with an attitude. If we continue to get all professional, nice guys, our team will be in the middle of the pack. We need attitude players.

I think we need both and that's what we've put together this year. We have our highly professional, student of the game, "high character" guys in Lee and now Byron Jones. High motor guys like Hitchens, Crawford, Mincey and Church. We have our fiery and frightening guys on the other end of the spectrum in RoMac and Hardy along with attitude in Scan and Wilcox. Guys like Lawrence, Carr, Gregory and TMcClain will feed on this.

It's a great blend of characters and personality types. I think we did a heck of a job rebuilding the defense this off season.

I don't think it is likely really. Assuming Hardy minds his manners off the field and performs up to expectations off of it, I think Dallas will want to re-sign him at *roughly* market price. Dallas has never minded paying big for an edge rusher.

And, assuming that Dallas does indeed want to re-sign him, I really think Hardy will want to stay in Dallas (unless he just hates Tim McMahon so bad that he wants to relocate... which I see as 50/50).

I think a big part of why Dallas wanted to sign him was to let him clear the stink of DV off his record and then sign him long term.

If Lawrence emerges and Gregory is a good looking rookie, I just don't see the Cowboys spending huge money to retain another edge rusher. You'd like to have as many as you can get but not at that price when you already have two you feel good about.
