Brandon Carr hopes improved footwork carries him far in 2015

OXNARD, Calif. -- After just about every morning walk-through, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr lays a speed ladder on the ground on the practice field and goes to work.

For 20 minutes, his feet pitter-patter on the ground as quickly as possible as he goes up the ladder and down the ladder. In and out, out and in. On one, he turns his right hip as he goes through. On another, he turns his left hip.

The work can be mesmerizing as his feet dance across the grass, like a dancer working across a stage.

"With my job, at the line of scrimmage you can win or lose a down with your feet or with your hips, just with your eyes and your reactions," Carr said. "So these drills incorporate different things where I flip and turn and just get my feet in the ground quick and get out of my break quick. That helps me here against live action with the receivers."

Carr has always done footwork drills in the past, but never as intricate as these...

I mean thats all well and good, but more impactful for Carr this season will be taking advantage of the (hopefully) improved pass rush.

I think better footwork is more impactful, he has no control over the pash rush.

i agree he has no control over it, but i believe his performance will be impacted more due to passrush than footwork, i mean at this stage in his career how drastic can it really change? just my unexpert opinion

He played very well at the end of last season. I expect him to play at a high level this season much like his first year here.

We shall see. He certainly is the kind of player you want in your locker room

I do think the whole thing with his mother last year during camp ended up hurting him physically from missing camp and mentally and emotionally for a good part of last season.

He did play pretty darn good at the end of last year so hopefully, with everything settled in his life, he can carry that over into 2015.

A pass rush will do wonders for Carr. We forget he's always the guy on Megatron, Beckham, Jordy, etc.

And the dude lost his mother right before camp. You can't tell me that didn't affect him. He's from a tight family.

Yeah, all of that has been running though my head this offseason and giving me hope that he can play as well as he did down the stretch last year.

My patience is thin with him.

For $50M he should have been working on his footwork years ago.

Yep, going to take more than footwork for him to make a believer outta me and many others. I will be pullin for him.

Yep. I'm pulling for him. I don't understand how fans can hate a player on the Cowboys. If you wear the star, I'm always pulling for you. Then when you leave, I wish for the worst. I really think this secondary will surprise this year. People are talking about the pass rush (which will be much improved and will help the secondary) but I think the secondary will be the most improved unit on the team.

1) Carr played like a man at the end of last season. Our best CB. And I think he'll pick up where he left off. 2) Scandrick is Scandrick. Been one of the most underrated players on the team for a while. 4) I really think Claiborne will show some signs this season. Healthy, a few years in the system, and his back against the wall. Watch out. 4) Patmon is a warrior. He's gonna be much better in his second year. 5) Byron Jones is gonna be a stud. Pure athlete, highly intelligent, versatile. 6) The Corey White signing is being slept on. 7) Church is Church. Mr. Consistent. 8) Wilcox has another year under his belt and some competition to give him that much needed push.

This secondary will be very good this year. And the pass rush will make it that much better.

Actually yes I did. I try to read all the articles posted on here.

Well he clearly stated that he's worked on footwork before. This may be extra work and an easy article for the author in the early coming and going of camp.

Certainly don't see the need to bash the guy today for putting in the work.

Megatron really killed this guys career. He hasn't been the same since that game.
