Some say draft a DL. Some say draft a CB. Some say draft a safety. Blah, blah, blah. Need a pass rush. Need a better secondary. Take a look around the league. Every team needs something. We all knew going in to this season that we would go only as far as the offense could take us. Whatever the defense could give us would be gravy.

Last year our defense was the absolute worst. This year, we are respectable and showing some potential. I read somewhere that something like 16 of the 20 Cowboys DL who played last year are no longer in the league. 2 others (Ware and hatcher) signed with other teams. That is some serious makeover. And we are doing OK so far.

I just watched New Orleans' defense last night. Last year they were the 4th ranked defense and added a high-priced FA safety. They also recently added a first rd pick in safety Vaccarro. And I think they have some 1st rd picks at CB. Well, lo and behold, that defense is 27th ranked and putrid this year. Maybe even worse than the Cowboys' defense of last year. Go figure. From 4th to 27th. Saints' needs on defense? Where do you even start? And their offense now has serious warts and a highly paid QB who may be sliding down quickly. Throw in some cap problems to boot. Glad they have a real GM. ha ha.

I heard the Detroit Lions got absolutely no pressure on Brady at all. Top pick Suh and Ansah did squat. And another top pick Fairley is injured and did nothing before that. Nada, Zip, Zilch.

Jets added a top CB from Alabama last year and a top safety this year. Both 1st rd picks added to a top DL. Wow, what a defense that will be! Must be nice to have a real, bona-fide GM running the show.:muttley: Fast forward to now and the Jets are 2-9 and just got spanked by Kyle Orton, yes, that Kyle Orton.

In short, it is just so hard to predict needs in today's NFL with so many moving parts and variables (factor in arrests and injuries). I have no idea why Brandon carr is playing so poorly this year or why Patmon is playing so well until he got injured, that is. I have no idea why 31 other teams passed on LB Rolando McClain. I have no idea why LB Sean Lee tore an ACL with no contact. Same as Claiborne. That is why, I say just draft BPA - someone who can play. Regardless of position or perceived depth/strength.

Yes, the Cowboys have the best success when they draft BPA. They're probably going to need to look at mid-tier free agent CBs this off-season assuming that Carr gets cut due to his 8M salary for 2015.

The Saints defense is probably just proof that Rob Ryan is not a good DC. He did OK last season when he inherited players that had been coached up by the previous DC, but now that he's had time to put his stamp on the defense, they are bad.

The Jets just have problems all around.

The Lions example is probably the best one in your list. I didn't watch that game, but if they didn't get pressure with Suh and Ansah then that's a problem.
