In the end Jeff Heath was covering no one. He's awful. The CB Blitzed and Heath was probably supposed to help on the receiver in what looks to be man coverage based on what everyone else on the defense was doing.

Jeff Heath is aweful. Ive watched the guy for 4 years now blow many many tackles. There was a reason he was riding the bench behind the likes of the Hapless Wilcox.

I can buy that too but what I'm not sure of is if Heath was supposed to be covering the flats.

If he was supposed to be manning the WR I'm sure he would've just ran with him but it looked like his responsibility was to cover the flats and the linebacker bit on the PA so hard that he just kept following the back.

Why is it so hard for you to accept that Heath just blew the coverage? He did. And Taco falls down unblocked on a easy sack.

My best guess is that it's a cover 3 look by Dallas and the safety wouldn't be the guy going for that WR.

He would be controlling the flats and anything in that area of the field.

It would be a tough matchup for the linebacker but I would say it's probably his guy.

If you want to confuse yourself. I am 100% sure that Heath blew the coverage. It makes no sense what so ever for the Lber to cover the slot receiver. What if he went right towards the sideline? Would you really expect the lber to cover him? The slot receiver was the safety responsibility.

That's called confirmation bias. You want or expect it to be Heath; therefore, you conclude that it was definitely Heath when in reality it easily could have been the LB.

LOL nice find. For all those Taco guys, take a look what happened to him on this play. The RDE. I was commenting about this play several times in his analysis. This is the same type of play that many of you discounted about Watt. Unblocked clear shot at the QB. Taco doesnt even make the play because he falls down unblocked.

LOL. He slipped.

Like that's never happened to a player before.

Holy hell.

I don't want or expect anything of Heath. I know what he is and what he isn't. I watched how other personnel on the defense executed their assignments.. He seemed to be the anomaly.

Taco foot slipped and it was a roll out by the QB. He would never got there before the ball would be thrown. The good thing is had we had the coverage right QB has to make a decision to throw away of try to run and if he ran Taco is there even after his foot slipped.

Not sure why you talking crap on a player who foot slipped. Better cleats perhaps but even the best have slipped when trying to change directions that fast

Looks like it was the Mike's responsibility. The safety was coming up to play the man in the flat. Considering their positioning, that looks to have been the right call on his part. When he saw, the Mike starting to go that way, he was caught in no man's land because it was too late to go with the receiver over the middle.

If it makes you feel better, go for it.

Regardless of how you "feel", there was no proof on that play of which player was wrong.

If Woods can win the job over Heath, I would be fine with that; however, it's really difficult to precisely evaluate players in coverage in these preseason games where so many starters didn't even play.

This next game will be a little bit better in terms of evaluating players like Heath.

Forget you guys for making me (possibly) defend Jeff stinkin Heath but again, without knowing the coverage call you have no idea who is to blame.

You'd have to know the call.

You'd have to know the Cowboys defense's mesh rules (who takes what when #2 WR comes underneath).

You'd have to know if Heath and the MLB had an "us" call or "banjo" call.

What is obvious is that one of them screwed up badly. It will be known by the DC, LB coach and Secondary coach, and that player was graded and addressed.

Boy that is a tough call without knowing the coverage.

To me it looked like it was the Linebackers man.

Good playcall by the offense.

The linebacker clearly thought he had the back in the flat, but it's more likely that Heath had the outside zone and the linebacker had the inside zone. To ask Heath to cover the middle from near the numbers puts him at an automatic disadvantage. With us blitzing the corner, you would want to keep the linebacker between the QB and TE to prevent the hot read.

We were going to lose on this play anyway, though, because the blitz failed.

Like others said, gotta know the call.

But the fact Heath didn't even attempt to cover him, with the CB blitz, makes me think that was on the Mike.

To me it looked like some type of edge blitz with cover 3 behind it.

This pic shows the responsibilities for the SS in Cover 3. Heath was the SS.

When our DB blitzed i'm going to guess that Heath was responsible for the Flat and The buzz.

The MLB bit on the play action (He thought it was a run) and just continued with it and it let the man go free.

If it was a cover 1 coverage from the get go I can't see a Safety like Heath who is a vet just not covering his guy.

This...... X1000

My gut tells me the Mike should've signaled pre-snap for slot coverage in this package. Lee woulda called this out instantly
