I thought teams could sign player that are cut at anytime ... it's just players that are UFA or RFA that teams have to wait on ...

Am I wrong again?

Actually, I'm not sure. But I don't think it matters much now, we're only talking about less than 10 hours before midnight anyways.

Nope your right anyone cut we could sign right now. I think owners are just waiting until there is no chance of a CBA. Once it closes at 4 we should see some activity.

The player's union just cost NFL players between $320 million and $480 million in additional cap space this season alone.

Owners are also scrambling to get their own houses in order before tonight's deadline. For example we need to make our own cuts and restructure a few deals to best position ourselves.

Good point

How does all of this affect the 2006 NFL draft?Signing draft choices will be more difficult this year, because teams can prorate signing bonuses over only four seasons. Already, agents figure the most a top draft choice can make under that scenario is $15 million, a major reduction from recent years. That likely will lead to long holdouts by draft choices. (From ESPN)

I think it would be wise for the Boys to trade out of the first round to avoid this. I'd rather trade out, pick up some picks this year or next year, and not go through the headache.

NFL | Upshaw comments on stalemate
Thu, 2 Mar 2006 10:35:48 -0800

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports NFL Players Association chief Gene Upshaw said they are too far apart in negotiations with the NFL owners. "There won't be an extension. They are unanimous so there's nothing to talk about. We'll go to the uncapped year," Upshaw said.

Several players have called FOXSports.com to voice their concern over not having enough information in regards to the stalemate. While the players agree with Upshaw's stance, several have claimed they are not being kept in the loop, including several player representatives. Upshaw's executive committee, however, has been kept in the fold with regards to the dealings. The player reps and Upshaw are not scheduled to meet on the status of negotiations until next week.
