To be honest, I'm starting to think Brown and/or Fehoko may put Washington out to a job. In other words, I'm feeling much better about our WR room now than two weeks ago.

Cowboys Training Camp: Leighton Vander Esch a Big Surprise
The linebacker returned motivated on a one-year deal and has shown improvement. Plus, receivers are stepping up after injuries to Michael Gallup and James Washington.

I agree. I think Washington could be the odd man out by the time he leaves IR if the others are performing well.

Serious question........would you offer LVE a long-term deal if returns to his rookie form or let him walk?

I've heard high praise for the down roster WRs from quite a few sources. Brown and Fehoko seem to have taken jumps. We'll find out, I guess.

I mean isn’t his replacement already on the roster?

Great question. Would partly depend on Cox's progress, Clark's progress and how Barr performs. Rookie LVE was an impact player so you'd have to think hard before letting him walk. Then again, why tie up significant cap dollars at off ball LB if you have guys behind him that can perform more cheaply.

At any rate, we'd want to protect ourselves against that fragile spine, so I'd structure any deal with low base salaries and high per game incentives.

    I'd offer a 2 year deal with a club option for a 3rd.

Even when he's healthy and playing well (which it seems he's on track for this season), I'm not sure there's a huge market for someone like him. His injury history plus the game naturally de-emphasizing players with his type of skillset probably means he can be had for some type of value. We're getting ahead of ourselves, but if he plays well again this year and stays healthy, based on the list posted above, something like 2 years and $8mm to $10mm seems reasonable, with $5 or $6mm guaranteed. I think that's almost exactly what Jayron Kearse got, and that sorta makes sense to me (even at a different position with different markets).

It'll at least partly depend, as others have said, on the play of Jabril Cox and Devin Harper and maybe the health of Damone Clark.

Tough decision to make. On one hand, LVE may still be injury prone with his neck still being a potential issue. On the other hand, it's not remotely our decision to make. I would imagine that the Cowboys' physicians would be consulted for their opinions.

The FO will surely be in charge of making such a decision. There's no telling what they might decide to do, but I think they'll retain LVE -- at least, for this year. Beyond that, might well be anyone's guess. They'll likely wait until the season is over to evaluate it and decide.

I would agree that it's quite possible that Washington might be the odd man out, although, that's beyond this membership's privilege to decide. We'll see what happens in due time.

Personally, I have no compelling reason, nor desire, to make decisions for the Cowboys' FO. Such things are their baby to take care of. Let's just hope what they decide works out for the best.

Good post...... you're probably right, his health will likely limit his value unless he takes another one-year deal and prove
he can stay healthy and play at high level two straight years.

I think Washington's injury might be a blessing in disguise. It's good to see what we have first in our youngsters then to rely on other team's backups.
