1.5 sacks in 39 games back when he was in playing shape should be all the evidence you need. Who would you like to cut to make room for him?

His responsibilities in the old scheme were not to penetrate and sack but to stand his ground often against two players and defend two gaps as well as occupy two OL. Asking a player with that responsibility to sack the QB is asking a lot and there aren't many guys who can or have done that. Asking them to get some push is a plus and that do is difficult enough.

Now he will have some rush responsibilities including shooting the gap, shoot and hold as well as play some two gap. If you can get some push up the middle it will help the other DL. My guess is he won't be asked to just play a 0 but also a 1, 1/3 and perhaps on occasion 3. I don't know if he will play the Nickel rush package but IMO he could some although I'm not certain he's the best player for that package. The guy is very strong and has a good motor.

I will say this one more time but that's it.

Leave out the moral, ethical, legal, philosophical ramifications, ideology, personal judgments and whatever I've missed not pertaining directly to football out of the Brent situation in this forum, ie Fan Zone.

If you wish to discuss those issues, within the guidelines, then take it to the Rant Zone or the Off Topic Zone. Just remember political and religious discussions are off limits there as well.

You may discuss the football issues related to Brent's return. Please, do not try to stretch the topic into one of the areas above rationalizing they dovetail. Perhaps some do. If so, then take it to the afore mentioned Zones in that case. Start your own thread for same. There is too much clutter and it derails the main thread when these devolve into those areas.

This is a FOOTBALL forum. There are a zillion forums out there for you to use for those topics. And there are two Zones where they may be discussed in a format that stays within the guidelines.

thats fine, jsut proves lives mean less and less, trust me, had it been your loved one, we know waht you would be screaming. its easier when its not affecting you. but its affecting someone, a life over words. Just sad what we have

Then of course their is Church, Carter, Scandrick, and Spencer who all remain friends of Brent and are not doing as you claim 'we know.' Lee went to his trail regularly.

Listen to jobber I just deleted most of the post I wanted to write.

Guaranteed. They wouldn't reduce the suspension and let him back on the field earlier but they now have assured he is fully ready to go that first week back. That was the compromise Jerry accepted to bring Sam in even though they wanted no part of him in the draft or once he was available.

I smell BS.

This is more likely related to providing Brent the support and structure he needs to be successful. This is similar to the new league rules on drug suspensions where the suspended players are no longer banned from team facilities. I doubt very much that there is anything wink wink about this.

Guaranteed? Is there any proof?

You don't know the first thing about the leagues negotiators nor who even is on point on the matter for the Cowboys.

This just reads like bad fiction.

Are all suspended players no longer banned from team facilities? Brent is not on a drug suspension. He is the first suspended player I've heard of that is allowed to be with the team. There is no way to know for sure but I called it within minutes of them signing Sam that within a few weeks Brent's suspension will be shortened. I felt this way because the team had gone out of its way to state many times they didn't feel Sam was a fit for their scheme and they had a few days to sign him for free after he was cut and the signed 10 other players instead. Then we find out the league was calling around trying to convince teams to sign him and Jerry finally took the bait. I still think he was offered something to do it because up until then, they wanted no part of Sam. Then this news comes out and it makes perfect sense. If it's a league wide thing that all suspended players are allowed back, then fine, I was probably wrong. If not, I think it's fairly obvious this is what happened.

Still no proof and in order to deduce something you have to eliminate the other possibilities.

Let's see. We know that the team was in negotiations with the NFL regarding him not being able to practice with the team the week they were in London and were seeking to get the agreement amended.

At least we know that those negotiations are real.

Did Dallas officially sign Brent or was he still under contract when he retired?

Also, I thought he was allowed to practice 2 weeks earlier but is still suspended for 10 games.

Like the player more than most... Only one to have him as my sig at one point. But totally disagree with this.

No but it is a similar situation - you want to support the guy by giving him structure. Likely something argued for in his appeal. It likely rang true because it was the same argument used by the union in changing how drug suspensions were treated.

Really this isn't that hard to comprehend. It is fairly simple. Far more simple than the conspiracy theory tossed out earlier

I'm sure being around the team structure would be good for Peterson and Rice, too.

We know in Rice's case that many teammates wanted him off the team. Peterson pretty much agreed to leave to focus on his case.

It's my understanding the league failed to hear an appeal timely and as a result agreed to negotiate a resolution to that problem by allowing him to practice with the team earlier than he was supposed to. No grand conspiracy I'm afraid.
