I must have been out of the loop because I really didn't think losing Price was a big deal. When did he light the NFL on fire that Dallas can't simply replace him with an Amobi Okoye or another bottom rotation guy?

Odds against Corp were real long, he was a camp body.

... and we had an entire 4 page thread about him.

Holy smokes.

It's the offseason... EVERYTHING is worth a 4-page thread.

too many knee jerk reactions to moves nobody knows all the facts about--and it's a long time until training camp, plenty of moves to make

ha ha. That's true.

We can start a 10 page thread about Tony Romo's turd floating or not floating.

So happy we passed on Floyd.

Not worried about DL at ALL.

How about Damontre Moore and Jessie Williams? Both 3rd round down.

Josh Brent's trial is to be done in late September and he may have to sit in the can for a while. May never return to the NFL and if he does may face some suspension. So at this point the guy is classified more as a "maybe but not likely" on every front of playing than a reliable option.

Lissemore is basically our 3rd sure DT. Ratliff is coming off injury as well off the field issues in his 30's. Hatcher who has never played DT in the NFL is in a contract year already in his 30's.

Who's the pass rusher behind Demarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer. Oh, Kyle Wilbur and Crawford. I see, I see.

It's almost like this team neglects glaring issues on the roster so that there is an excuse why we fail.

Tony Romo gets hurt and we know we're in trouble but at least there's some contingency there in Orton. If Ware goes down we're toast, with no viable contingency. That's our 2nd most irreplaceable player on this team and he's coming off of multiple injuries.

But hey, we're going to possibly, finally effectively operate the 12.

Nothing more awesome than a bunch of whiny fans who know DL better than veteran NFL coaches like Rod Marinelli and Monte Kiffin.

It really is hard to believe the NFL hasn't hired these guys yet.

It's especially awesome when they neglect facts like Jesse Williams had a pretty scary knee.

Brian Price was an option for the rotation if healthy. He wasn't healthy RIGHT NOW. That's the big win for this group of mensa members? ROFL.

Strength in the OL and the DL is an analogy for being a strong football team overall. Until we're beating good teams fairly consistently, there are going to be fans who perceive our team as weak, and the easiest way to understand 'weak' is 'not enough beef in the middle.'

I really don't think it has much at all to do with the actual players, or with what experienced coaches have to say. It's really just a metaphor for a solid team foundation. If we end up passing the ball better and stopping the other guys from passing it as effectively, it'll be amazing the impact coach Marinelli had on the Lissemores and Basses of the world.

That said, I do think that with Price out of the picture we should be looking for a FA DL who's capable of playing some snaps at the NFL level prior to training camp.

For the sake of sanity let's review the ACTUAL DL.

SDE: Spencer. Coming off of 11 sacks and has been franchised as a top 10 player. Will rush the passer more often now.
3T: Ratliff. Made Pro Bowls from 2008-2011. Had one injury laden season and is now dirt apparently.
1T: Jason Hatcher. Former 3rd round pick was the best DL on the team last year.
RDE: Ware. Simply the best pure pass rusher in the NFL. NFL Defensive player of the year and owner of 111 career sacks.

Rotation:
Tyrone Crawford: 2nd year 3rd rounder who has enormous potential but was raw coming in. Returning rotation member.
Sean Lissemore: Former 7th rounder who has played significant snaps for a couple years now.
Kyle Wilber: 2nd year 4th rounder. Becomes the 3rd DE and a nickel pass rusher. Going back to the spot he played for years at Wake Forest. WF was only a 3-4 for his final season. Biggest leap of faith on DL is that Wilber can help you at DE but it's a leap you make with young 2nd year guys.

There you go. That's the likely game day 7 man DL rotation. A Ben Bass or Rob Calloway make force their way in or help due to injuries but this 7 man rotation is fairly well set.

This concept our DL sucks is rather silly. Just look at it. Jason Hatcher is the LEAST decorated guy we have. I understand these guys aren't all 25 but we do have Crawford, Lissemore and Wilber as young back ups and ascending players.

We essentially went from requiring 5 DL to 4 with this 4-3 move.

It's always nice to add a really nasty DL. But you got to show me that guy. Floyd was an effort and around the ball guy. Great to have but it very likely removes the LAST WALKIN STARTER ON THE OL. Damontre Moore is under 250 pounds and less athletic than you'd like but migh have been the most appealing DL left for this roster. He'd have been the nickel pass rusher. Is he better than Wilber with a year less experience? Virtually the same size but Wilber tested better at the combine. Moore ran a 4.95 50. Then added 12 reps on the bench. Wilber was a 4.7 40 guys with 25 bench reps.

That's just your opinion, man. One could argue that Hatcher isn't a true 1 tech, Ware is coming off of an injury-plagued season, and Ratliff hasn't been a solid player for us since 2009.

The fact that all four projected starters on the DL will be 30+ yrs old for Week 1 makes me nervous.

.....ALL of us nervous. The fact it does NOT make JJ or anyone in the front officce nervous is further proof they're incompetent.

What exactly was opinion?

Ratliff DID make pro bowls in 2008-2011 whether you judge him a quality player or not. No opinion there.

I offered that Hatcher was probably our best DL last year and I guess that qualifies as opinion but is hardly a stretch given Ratliff was injured and Ware/Spencer were LB.

It seems you are the one with opinions.

Or proof that folks cry a lot over nothing? Even when mama and daddy tell them all is well?

I can see not trusting Jerry but it is Rod Marinelli and Monte Kiffin selling this DL.

And just a very small amount of logic shows why they do. It is a quality starting DL that most teams would kill for. 3 of the 4 have played in Pro Bowls and the 4th is a very solid pro.

Would it be nice to have Shariff Floyd at a 5th DL who could start if anyone is injured? Absolutely. Nicer than having a starting OC and a 3rd WR? Not likely.

I am not a big fan of the 4-3 but one thing it definitely does is make the roster deeper at DL. We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

This guy is extremely talented, he has the ability to be an elite dlineman. A true shame he's blown his career by being a toolshed.

This does make passing on S.Floyd far more frightening. However I do think Ratliff has another good year or two in him. Maybe they're eyeing someone that's expected to come out next year.

If our big 5 picks (based by potential) do well (C, TE, WR, S, RB) this team will have put itself in excellent position going forward.

If WR hits it allows us to move on from Miles if need be or if he returns to form it allows us breathing room when it comes to resigning Dez.

If TE hits its great for when Witten retires, plus if he's that great it will allow us to use him now to make an impact.

We've all seen what Murray can do but he's injury prone, RB allows us stability.

C & S were very long standing needs. The S was a steal in the 3rd.

We may have put outselves in a great longterm position. Our largest needs are another S, G and DL. We can easily address 3 needs next year.

One could argue that Brandon Mebane and Stephen Paea aren't true 1 techs.
