Watch what the Steeler's defense does to this unstoppable Eagles offense. I bet Philly doesn't get 17 points against them at home.

I bet they do score more than 17 points.

Defense also held them 5 of 12 on 3rd down conversions. I'll agree with anyone who wants to see improvement from this unit but again I think some take 1 game and go completely over board.

In some cases.

But we have had concerns about the defense for quite a while now.

Besides the lack of a pass rush, the most troublesome aspect was the poor tackling and the constant grabbing of the face mask.

I just wonder why we still play some of these soft zones when we have a fairly decent secondary.

Wade played this type of defense in SD and ATL and they were both ranked pretty high.

The problem is I dont see how this type of zone coverage defense fits our Defensive Backs.

We drafted and acquired guys that excel at man to man.

Yet we always see Newman....Pacman....etc playing zone and receivers wide open.

At the end of the game....they played man up and with safeties deep and McFlabb had nohere to throw.

I dont understand the logic in Wade and Stewart.....ur players want to play man....they struggle with zone.....and yet.....we play the majority of playes in zone coverage.

Funny....we complained about Zimmer and his passive approach....and now we just have a 3-4 guy here who does the exact same thing in coverage.

If Jim Johnson had this defense.......we would be dominate...IMHO

Spin Spin Spin.

Jim Johnsons defense has also been the strength of the eagles team. Yea one bad game i give you that for them.

I cannot ever say the same for this defense since its been under Wade and Parcells.

Just ONE bad game??

Oh-what was all this talk about their 3-headed monster at CB? What was all this talk about Dawkins FINALLY coming back HEALTHY? What was all this talk about Quinten Mickels becoming a force at SS? What was all this talk about their youthful trio of Bradley/Gaither/Gocong at LB that was going to terrorize defenses with their speed and talent? What was all this talk about Darren Howard going back to his old form? What was all this talk about Bunkley/Patterson being among the best DT combo in the league?

Oh yah-getting torched left and right is ONLY ONE bad game, no big deal for a Jim Johnson defense.

Why are you entitling them to excuses, and not us?:bang2:

We played man and two safeties back because of Roy wasn't in the game.

First it was Zimmer, now Stewart. The common denominator in all of this is the players. They simply aren't getting it done. This is not a good defense, yet.

Having said that, Philly's offense is going to make a lot of defenses look bad this year.

As I said like anyone I want to see improvement but I also relize we were not playing some bottom dwelling team Philly is a good team you don't have to like them but to turn a blind eye to that fact makes these type of disscussion worthless. Had Dallas just given up 37 points to the Rams hell I would be worried but we were not playing the Rams and in the end when we needed this defense to step up they did so on Philly's last 2 drives to prevent them from scoring. This had been a knock on them for years that the defense could not finish the game yet they did

I don't understand all the doom and gloom. We all knew this was going to be a high-scoring game. Would I have loved to shutout the Iggles ... you bet. We gave up a lot of points to a very good team in the first half, and virtually shut them down in the second. Why is that a bad thing? The defense obviously made halftime adjustments and kept Philthy out of the end zone except for one play.

Philthy isn't Cleveland. They are a good team. It's no different than the first Giants game last year. Explosive offenses will score.

Who taught this defense to tackle by grabbing the face mask? We got lucky last night as the horrible officiating missed at least 3 face mask tackles by our defense and flagged us for two.

They also missed a couple on the E-Girls and called us fro one, where both players were holding each others' mask.....

I agree. I wish we would have hired Spagnulo as DC and Garrett as Head Coach. We would be set for years.:bang2:

We should be so lucky as to have a defensive genius like Jim Johnson. Clearly they had the better defense last night....or something.

Will Wade & Brian start feeling the heat for the poor defensive play or will the win last night wash the criticism away???

Everyone claimed Wade was a defensive guru, and that teams were much better in the second year under him. Well, after the first half last night it is the Cowboy faithful who is scared -- not our opponents. What can be done or should be done to "fix" the defensive under-performing? I thought a leader like Zack would be an answer but maybe this isn't enough. Any ideas????

Who here thinks we were using passive, vanilla schemes?
Those that either (1) didn't watch the game, or (2) don't know what to look for.

I don't know man

It looks like it but we don't really know.

The defense needs to start getting aggressive.

We simply let the offense dictate to us instead of dictate to the offense.

The blitzing i don't have a problem with. Its just the coverage schemes.

We have been since Wade got here. Before he got here we were getting beat deep trying to be aggressive so he switched to the bend-but-don't-break scheme, so we get beat deep less but it's tough for us to make plays on the ball or get pressure.

Not I, but I do believe they should teach better techniques of disguising blitzes. Though Barbie Carpenter had a good one. :)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Man Coverage Panacea. Nevermind that it was the zone coverage scheme that stopped them cold in the 4th quarter.

Dude, you're not a realist. You're just clueless.

Stopped them cold? What were you watching? Our biggest breaks were dropped passes and poor hand offs. Only a few times was the coverage so good McNabb had nowhere to go and we could get there after he sat in the pocket and slid around for 10 seconds, and at least once he could have run for the first down but passed it instead.
