Brian Waters?

Whew, so Brian Waters. Okay, he's 36, been out of the league since the end of the 2011 season and may or may not come quite cheap. With that said, if he still has a little left in the tank and could play at least half as good as in the past/be at least solid it would help out the offense big-time. It's worth the gamble, IMO.

That's what I think too. I'd rather worry "has he still got it" than worry "will he ever get it"?

Watters may be done, or he may a few good years left. No one knows for certain.

Do the Cowboys bring him in for a workout? Sure, why not. If he has anything left then see what his asking price is and determine when they want to add him to the roster.

Personally, I don't think he will have a significant impact on the o-line if they add him at this time. They should continue the youth movement for now.

I'm so ready for Livings and Mack to be gone. I'd love to get Waters and let KK, Arkin, Leary, and Costa battle it out for the other OG spot. If Waters has stayed in shape, he should be refreshed and ready to go. I'd love to give him a shot and see if he has anything left.

This is the sort of move that we've avoided lately. But I do agree that taking a few weeks to see if he's got it left is not a bad choice. I think that the goal of favoring younger players is important. But honestly, we are going to be starting a rookie at Center, have Smith in just his third year, and may even see Leary start. Waters could bring some excellent veteran stability to that group.

Or course, a year on the couch may have done him in. But really, what does it really hurt to take a look?

I honestly think Mack will be here no matter what. Kowalski is a guy who is digging himself into a huge hole with missed time. He and Livings may end up the odd men out here if Leary plays well and we bring in Waters.

If Waters has a solid workout and is brought in, he'll be a starter day 1. You can pretty much lock in Leary at the other guard spot IMO.

Waters could give some of the younger linemen a chance to continue to develop and learn from him. A six-time Pro Bowler who has played in the Super Bowl could be a great mentor, y'know?

Yeah, I think Kawasaki might not make the team, and that is to bad because from what I saw of him he looked like he could become a player, but, you can't make the team if you are always hurting in some way or the other.

No chance. He is finished. Shell of his former self.

I like the young kids we have innthe system right now - Arkin and Kowalski are showing some signs of life.

I am not saying it is a good signing but i read similar comments 2 years ago when we had the chance to sign him.

Why is he a shell of his former self? He played really well for the Patriots the year that they signed him, then decided to retire because he wanted to be closer to his home in Texas.

I know we tend to look at older guys as finished, but Waters hadn't shown that he was. Maybe he is now, but I'm OK with Dallas taking a look to see if he actually has become a shell of his former self.

(BTW, the Patriots offered to pay Waters $4 million to stay with them. Hardly what you'd give to a shell.)

The Cowboys signed two offensive lineman today... Waters wasn't one of them.

I'll go with the young guys on our team.

I've always found this comment by whomever says it to be interesting in situations like this.

So, the people who see the young guys everyday in practice are considering signing a really old guy who hasn't played in a while.

The people who do the evaluating are considering this.

To break it down, the young guys have not impressed to the point that this guy, who has been sitting out, still looks serviceable and perhaps a better option than the young guys.

So what does that say about our "young guys" and the people doing the evaluation?

And what does that say about the team's offensive line at this point if an old guy who has been sitting out is actually signed, knowing if he makes the squad and plays game one they have to pay his full salary at the vet minimum for the years he has been in the league?

This game is won in the trenches. But not by old broken guys like Livings and Bernadeau, or semi-retired guys like this moak, or even young guys that cannot impress enough to keep the starting job.

Romo needs to start his wind sprints now.

Someone reported the Boys had an interest in Waters. Did the club really come out and say that?

Broaddus talked to Stephen Jones and they are basically interested in anyone right now(no stone unturned) but they just signed two young guys. Jeff Olson and James Nelson. The big worry is getting guys for this upcoming game.

and I don't think you sign Waters because you need someone in a pre-season game.

Geoff Hangartner – the Panthers' projected starter at right guard – was based on progress displayed by younger players on the roster
Hangartner – a fifth-round draft pick by the Panthers in 2005 from Texas A&M – played six seasons with the team (2005-08 and 2011-12). He started 55 games in Carolina, spending time at both guard and center during his tenure.

Hangartner started at right guard last year, then switched to center following Ryan Kalil 's season-ending foot injury

don't know A thing about the guy
