Brice Butler should start

So without Dez, no doubt the Cowboys will face 8 in the box to stop our running game until we can force teams out of it. I think the FO was thinking about this when they acquired Butler (albeit thinking Romo would be throwing to him). I think he should start this week going forward, or at least play a major role. He has 4.4 wheels and is a big, physical downfield threat (in a different way than T Will, who is all speed, not physicality). We will need to take some shots with him to keep defenses honest. I hope he has digested the playbook and gets alot of reps this week. Street is not the answer.

Butler was the intended target on two plays that I recall and seemed to botch them both, including the one where Romo broke his clavicle, so... no.

Every time he was on the field, it was a fire drill trying to get him even lined up in the right spot. No thanks. He shouldn't even sniff the field until he can at least do that much.

He looked lost from what I recall. He did draw penalty but that was the extent of his contributions.

He was held on the play near the end zone. It actually helped us.

This. Both times Romo held the ball and got killed in the last one. I've never seen Romo even do this!

lol. Let me guess. Christine Michael should start too?

Geez people, could anyone knee-jerk harder than Cowboy's fans? Neither one of these players are starter material.

Butler wasn't the target, Witten was. Butler was blocking from the start. It looked like they wanted to run a pick play to Witten with a Beasley/Witten route combo, but Jenkins read it and jumped the route. I could be wrong, but I don't think Butler was the target at all.

Edit: @xwalker can you confirm or deny this? I don't have the replay saved and am going off memory here.

And alot of people on this board are really short-sighted. Devin Street offers no deep threat on the outside. Without a deep threat that safeties have to pay attention to, this team is going to have lots of trouble running the ball. Which puts Weeden in lots of third and longs. Recipe for disaster.

There is a reason Butler was active this week with only 3 days of practice under his belt. The coaching staff knows we need his deep play ability. And Devin Street offers none of that. Give the kid a chance to practice a full week before judging him on lining up in the wrong place or running an imperfect route after 3 days of practice.

I'm going to go with, I don't want Weeden throwing deep unless the opponent's coverage is completely broken down. Drive the damn bus and let the defense keep us in the game. Weeden is not a playmaking QB.

Did you watch him play yesterday because it sure didnt look like it.

I actually liked what I saw. A 6'3" guy with speed. Now, I agree, he's got to learn the playbook and run routes more precisely. But with only 3 days of practice, that is to be expected. With a full week of reps, and a home game without crowd noise, maybe he's in a better place to contribute.

You've NEVER seen Romo hold onto the ball long, really? When have you started watching Cowboys' games?

I'm saying he just froze like Butler was not even where he was supposed to be. Re watch it

First Offensive play against Atlanta will be play action pass bomb to Butler. Weeden's got a cannon...use it to loosen the box.
