He struggled to learn the system he spent the entire training camp on and you think he's ready to run a whole new system in two weeks?
They will do what they did yesterday, give him a few plays he can actually learn and bring him along slowly
A good start would be learning where to line up
Like the potential he has but he is not going to be much of a contributor for awhile and he's not going to be ready to start this year for sure
He's going to need a full off season and training camp to push for even a 4th WR spot

Or give him a definite route, not some option route where he has to read the defense and make a decision. The coaches can explain the exact route to him and just have him run it then get him out of the game until the coaches can explain the next play to him. Just don't wait until he is on the field and Weeden has to explain it to him then.

Install the Oakland passing tree for him huh? One branch headed strait out.

If he doesn't have the playbook down, I think we need to see less of him this week. The one thing Weeden doesn't need is the distraction of a receiver not knowing where to line up. We need to do everything possible to make this as easy on Weeden as we can.

I'd run more two tight end sets using Beasley and Williams as the primary receivers. That gives Weeden some underneath targets to work with and receivers who know where they are supposed to be (although Beasley has had some issues with that).

Those underneath targets will have less room to operate and more chance of turnover with 8 in the box.

Two plays.

Play 1: go out and run a slant.
Play 2. go out and run a slant the other way

We gotta connect on 2-3 per game.

Butler should just try to fit in. Coaches need to see if he is capable of starting. There is a reason he did not cut it with the Raiders.

The desire to see Butler for me has more to do with the lack of impact Street has shown.
I will admit that I kept getting the feeling watching that game that we were playing with only 1 receiver. Heck we threw a long pass to Dunbar twice.
I don't see a huge downside when Butler is in the game and Street is out.

We will be facing even more stacked boxes with Romo out. Teams know if they shut down our run then we are like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest.
Butler just adds some hope of a deep threat to keep the defense honest.

That said...You cant have communication breakdowns so if Butler doesn't know his routes then he sits.

He should still know the play book and where to line up! - Militant Cowboys fans lol

Romo was directing where Randle and the new TE (Swaim) were supposed to line up on multiple occasions as well.

And it annoys the hell out of me. It reminds me of being back in the Ogletree days where every single play was Romo trying to get everyone lined up correctly and then having someone run the incorrect route.

Stuff like that stresses me the hell out.

That play was Witten and Beasley anyway Butler was not getting the ball. Romo pulled the ball because Jenkins jumped the route.

I wouldn't necessarily run them over the middle. Might have Witten drag with Williams clearing over the top quite a bit, though, since Weeden seems to like throwing deeper to Williams. There are ways to clear those linebackers out without having some new player who doesn't know what he's doing run deep.

We have a new deep threat. His name is Lance Dunbar.

He is a mismatch nightmare
Those down field plays are impossible for a LB or even safety for that matter to cover
He is also good at runs after catch on short stuff
He can be a bit of a security blanket for Weeden and an effective check down option

I was joking about sending Dunbar deep after the Giants game because an LB can't cover him and it would force a safety deep opening up underneath routes. I didn't think they would actually do it, let alone throw it to him. TWICE.
