Ruffians, Joey Ickes of SB Nation nails it! Nails, I say!

When we tie in the idea of so many of Dak’s interceptions in 2022 coming in these same situations (third downs, 2-minute drills or Red Zone; me parenthetical), and late in downs when scrambling would likely be a sensible alternative, maybe asking Dak to tuck and run a time or two more per game rather than trying to fit the ball into a tight window to his third or fourth read might be beneficial.

Grand advice to our gunslinger, grand!

I've disagreed with Joey Ickes once or twice, but he makes a good point. Nothing wrong for Dak to tuck the ball and run once in a while. Even throwing it away, instead of forcing throws, especially during key downs or locations on the field (inside opponent's 20 or even inside our own 20).

I was disappointed to hear Dak's QB coach from the last several seasons was being kept. I don't believe Dak has improved on his game or turnover awareness the past 3 years, and that comes down to better coaching.

Exactly, Dak's legs are a threat when he uses them. He should use them more. It brings an extra element that defences have to defend, which can help open a receiver that would otherwise be covered.

Teams aren't playing a bunch of man against the Cowboys, there aren't going to be running lanes.

maybe now a few years removed from that injury he could run more. but i wonder how much pain that leg is in daily. he seems like he does not want to run unless absolutely necessary

Dak's QB coach (Nussmeier) got fired - his new QB coach is Tolzien.

Is this also not the point of running the ball more as a team? Or more like, running it more effectively?

Yes Dak probably needs to Tuck and Run, seeing the open field in front of him better.
It is better than if he has to Duck and Run, due to an OL breakdown. :muttley:

Unfortunately, this is just dumb.
Joey has done this a long time but this one is a bad miss.

Dak is a vet QB who has been injured multiple time sin recent seasons.
He does NOT need to run more.
If anything he needs to run only when it really counts.
See Mahomes in the Super Bowl.

And the INT thing is so simple brained.
Dak has an elite career INT percentage.
In the 4 seasons prior to lasty year he had an INT% below 2.0
2022 was an outlier in a big way.
Arguing he should take more punishment to throw less flies in the face of all basic logic.

I've said the same thing. He doesn't not have to become a running QB. Juts a couple times a game....a surgical strike....would change things dramatically.

I think that's what he's saying isn't it?

I think Dak needs to learn to throw the ball away more. There probably times when he could run more but last year he looked slow when initially tucking and running. I think there are times he takes unnecessary sacks when he could just throw it out of bounds and avoid a loss of yards.

No, that comes down to better QB play, simple.Let’s not blame the coaching. After 7 yrs, a qb should know all they need to know.

I have been saying this for a few years. Problem is after his injury the staff does not want him being a running type QB. Dak used to have a few designed runs every game or the option to fake the run and flip it to Elliot or keep it and go off tackle. Then he had fewer ints. He got injured on a big run. Was a Pollard type tackle from behind that got him.

Since then he has had a few runs in goal line situations. But will chance the int trying to squeeze it in or take the sack instead of tucking it and getting 5-7 yards and sliding down. This needs to change. The second pick in the 49ers playoff game had a classic Dak run written all over it. 3rd and 2, if he scrambled over to his right after the end went by then he had a mile to go. Was an easy pick up.

He has to add these threats of him running it back to his tool box. Would give defenses fits if he took off a few times a game.
