Is that three players the Giants signed from Dallas this offseason?

I would venture to say that we have had more players sign with our division rivals over the last 3-4 years than any other team in the league, respectively.

Certainly over the last two seasons.

Interesting to me. When's the last time we signed a giant, Commander, or eagle player?

Yes, thought about that too. Interesting indeed. I think the last Eagles player (of significance) was Randle Cunningham. Even he had played for the Vikings, previously. Rest of the NFC East teams, I am not sure.

Maybe some of the residential Cowboys historians can chime in.

Can someone verify the complexities of his vested veteran status on the offset - if they cut him at any point, he can opt to get his entire salary (700k+). If they Giants do that, Brinkley will certainly opt to take the full year's pay. He will be free to sign elsewhere. My question is whether that 700k ends up as part of our offset or whether we only get what he is paid on an active roster for.

I'm no cap expert. How does it make our cap hit cheaper?

Its my understanding that we are on the hook for 1.2 million but the remaining 750K base salary would be offset by the amount the new team is paying him. With his tenure, I think the vet min is around 720K per year, so we would be off the hook for that amount.

His salary was guaranteed by the Cowboys, but whatever the Giants pay him will be subtracted from what the Cowboys owe him on his base salary.

Basically it should save the Cowboys 750K of cap space.

But is that true if he uses his vested veteran option when he's cut?

Keith Rivers played a couple years with the Giants and Lache Seastrunk was with the Commanders

That is true but Seastrunk wasn't with the Commanders last year, he just got drafted by them... and Rivers came directly to Dallas after being with Buffalo.

So that is a far cry from something like the Giants signing Harris or Selvie, the Commanders signing Hatcher, etc.

Offset language is not that common. It is not part of most contracts.

The Giants signed him as FA since he was a vested vet when Dallas cut him.

His Giants salary would be guaranteed since he signed before Week One. If there was offset language I would think Brinkley could take his one time cut money from NY and get any remainder from Dallas.

If there is no offset language he could get the money from the Giants AND the 750k from Dallas.

Yeah I remember Lavar ( a Commander) had no problem going to play for the Giants. But he said he would never play for the Cowboys because of the rivalry. I was like aren't the Giants a rival as well? But then you see players like Hatcher go on and play for the skins. I believe Brian Mitchell played for the Eagles. Guess all three teams just dislike each other but all three together have an intense hatred of the Cowboys. That said, if Dallas wanted Orakpo this offseason, I think he would have signed here.
