DT Carlif Taylor in preseason, from Giants.

That is true but he was never, ever going to make this team. Just a camp body.

Harris, Murray, Selvie, etc. are veterans from the free agent market and all three were brought in to fill a hole on their rosters. Completely different scenario.

Of course, you are technically right but I think Taylor isn't in the spirit of the question he asked.

I am having a hard time remembering the last NFC East rival player that we signed as a free agent and expected him to make the squad. I haven't looked it up, so I may be forgetting one recently... but I can't really think of any in the last few years.

On the other hand, I can think of several Dallas players that Washington and the Giants brought in.

There was also another Giants DT from Marinelli/Kiffin's first season (2012?). He was a kid from North Carolina, 2nd round pick if I recall correctly.

They had offset language in his contract.

Saying the same thing is not answering the question.

Does it matter to the offset whether he uses his one time "get your salary guaranteed" card? Does the offset require that he's earning a salary while on a roster. He's got a special situation there so I'm wondering if that impacts the offset.

The Giants are required to pay him the veteran'a minimum which is approximately the same as his base salary with the Cowboys (750K).

The offset requires that any salary that the new team pays him is deducted from his base that the Cowboys owe him.

Didn't we have an ex-Commander WR/KR in 2013 for 1/3 of the season?

It is possible that if the NYG cut him after week1 and he doesn't take his termination pay then DAL would still owe him the remainder of his guaranteed 750k and he could keep his termination pay card.

Off the top of my head, going back to when Jimmy Johnson came to Dallas, Babe Laufenberg (Commanders), Dean Hamel (Commanders), Jay Novacek (Cardinals), Randall Cunningham (Eagles), Phillippi Sparks (Giants), Terrell Owens (Eagles), Dan Campbell (Giants).

Yes, if they cut him, then it's just whatever they've paid him up to that point that will be deducted from what the Cowboys owe him if he does not sign with another team during the season. He has no reason to collect termination pay from the Giants unless they gave him and contract that was bigger than the 750K amount.

We do this as well as anyone, so you can't blame them. You know there are things he can tell them that will help. It's a risk you always take when cutting guys.

You still gotta stop Fredbeard & Co.

What's he gonna tell 'em?
