They triedbto keep Matt Moore when he was an undrafted free agent and he got scooped up.

He is now entering his 9th season as a backup with a winning record as a starter.

Jsckson would last as long as the last donut in a police station breakroom.

This shouldn't even be debatable. I think we are keeping 4 RBs. EZE and Morris are locks. Dunbar and McFadden are free agents after this year. Jackson would be locked up for 3-4 years at an inexpensive amount. Very easy decision, I just hope the FO doesn't get cute.

There is always a Jackson. Most teams have someone like that. Im ok with them trying to get him on the practice squad.

Most teams have a 6 foot 221 pound running back with 4.35 speed? Really?
I can't remember the Cowboys having a guy like Jackson.

A rookie that is 6', 200, 4.38 forty and already has good awareness in pass blocking.

He could easily be at least as good as McFadden, IMO. Jackson actually run though contact better (i.e. not easily arm tackled).

McFadden
Height: 6012
Weight: 211 (listed at 220 now)
40 Yrd Dash: 4.33
20 Yrd Dash: 2.53
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 13
Vertical Jump: 33
Broad Jump: 10'08"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.10
3-Cone Drill: 6.86

Jackson
Height: 6000
Weight: 220
40 Yrd Dash: 4.38
20 Yrd Dash: 2.51
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 20
Vertical Jump: 41
Broad Jump: 11'01"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.29
3-Cone Drill: 6.87

Only difference here is about 8 years of NFL contact. Rather have Jackson.

Elliott, Morris, Jackson. No interest whatsoever in keeping the other two.

The problem with that is if Morris were to suffer a rare injury we'll have a rookie starting QB along with an entire rookie backfield. Rookie's make mistakes and it's going to be hard to win games if our offense isn't real efficient and we suffer a bunch of turnovers. If we keep putting the defense back on the field we'll be lucky to win 6 games this season. I like Jackson's potential but we need some experience back there. This is the dilemma the Cowboys are facing. If they really like Jackson they'll probably not play him this week because if he has a big game they'll never get him through waivers.

I still am pissed about the Moore cut. I knew we would rue it the day it happened

Who would have ever thought that the random musings of an employee of the team would generate so much interest? Shocker.

This was my prediction when he was drafted. Try to get him through waivers. Lose him to another team. Watch him embarrass Zeke Elliott for the next 10 years.

Let's keep Jackson and cut Elliot, if that is the case.

Wait, maybe not.

Isn't this the same reason EVERYONE gave as to why Dallas would NOT draft RB with the 4th pick as well? Someone has figured out if you want to be a great rushing team, it may be wise to improve the talent at the actual RUNNING back position. I guess they have figured out that just plugging in mediocre talent at RB, even behind this great run blocking OL, does not produce the desired results.
We had a dominant rushing attack in 2014 without a first round running back.

In many ways our rushing attack was more impressive in 2015 as we had a top 10 unit with exactly 0 passing threat. For goodness sakes DMC averaged 4.5 ypc while going for over 1k yards. And he didn't open as our starter.

So yes we made a mistake at 4.

So you're saying that if the Cowboys backup RB gets injured, that they're stuck with the #4 overall draft pick (A big, fast RB, great receiver and regarded as one of the best pass blocking RBs in college history) as their workhorse RB? Good thing Sherman Williams never got injured back in the day...

I'm saying if we enter the season with a rookie starting QB and two rookie RBs leaving us with only one player in the backfield with experience to provide some veteran leadership it could lead to a lot of mistakes and inconsistency. We all love the potential of Dak and Zeke but they're going to make plenty of rookie mistakes and we have to be sure to leave ourselves with enough leadership and experience in the backfield to help both players out. We'll be lucky to win 6 games if we're not an efficient. solid offensive team this season because we have a number of holes defensively. Rookies make mistakes with turnovers and not knowing assignments and that can cost you games especially tight games. Garrett mentioned the concerns of having several rookie players out there.

If Zeke's hammy were to act up again we could be down to Jackson carrying the load at some point. I doubt anyone thinks Dak is going to have the kind of season Romo had in 2014 with a 112 plus passer rating or that Zeke is going to put up 1800 plus rushing yards like Murray. Having two veteran backs to fall back on along with Zeke to help provide experience and leadership gives us a better chance of success this season. We're going to have to be very sold offensively to try and limit the exposure of our defense and keep it fresh. Our DL looks like it could be a major issue we could struggle against the run and the pass this season. If we keep losing the battle in the trenches it's going to be all on our offense to win games.

It'd be a fun exercise to see the posts from last year at this team and the fringe players folks were swearing we'd never get through to the practice squad.
