I think they have a greater chance of being better. You can't pull guys off the streets with no camp, little time to get ready and throw them out there and expect they will be able to do the job. I agree that no one knows how this group of players will develop but I do think all the time they will have put in prior to training camp and then training camp gives many of us a legitimate hope they will be much better than the group last season.

You know it's late in the offseason when we're debating what's likely v. What we hope happens.

We've got a bad defense that's got a chance to be mediocre. A good offense with a chance to be very good. We should be good again on teams. That's what we're rolling with in 2014. I can live with that.

I agree. I have modest expectation for the defense, I just think there are some things in the favor one as mentioned having guys getting a full off season working in system and 2 for many this is their 2nd year in this defense and should have a better understanding. I also think that as beat up and bad as this unit was last season the one thing Rob was able to get out of them was creating turnovers. Marinelli preaches to these guys to not give up on plays for guys to stand players up and other to rip at the balls. He does not have guys waiting for turnover he gets guys to go after the ball and force turnovers.

“We’re going to take the ball away,” the 64-year-old defensive line coach said with conviction after a recent practice. “And you don’t emphasis it just in a drill – it’s all day long.

“I don’t care where we are at, we should go after the ball as fast and as hard as we can. It’s a mindset and you can’t get a strip if you don’t attempt it. Every snap should be a strip attempt and you got to sprint to have a strip attempt. It’s hustle.”
