If the front office claims we're set at safety it's only because they're counting on yet unproven players like Wilcox to make a big leap into the limelight as a coverage-capable safety in 2014. It may or may not materialize since he has a way to go to prove it. Jakar Hamilton and Matt Johnson are the other longshot talents they likely harbor wishful thinking for to make quantum leaps as well. Since safety is far from a sure thing to add talent for us following this year's draft, we'll likely be hoping for a miracle at FS.

I kind of agree with the Cowboys for one reason. You cannot really evaluate your secondary if your front 7 played so poorly. Unless you can get great value for a safety, don't even bother until your front 7 is at least competitive.

Cowboys need a vet S with single high experience, someone like Pat Chung.

Wilcox will be fine, I actually really like him and cant wait to see him as a leader on this D. But everyone else at the safety position can be replaced IMO. Church is a good nickle linebacker..But can we get a clips of him knocking down many passes? Exactly I dont know if he has broken up double digit passes since being a Cowboy. Everyone else..get real.

Church is a very good safety . The only times he got burned last season was when he was ISO on a fast TE in the slot . That's more on the coaches than anything . When church is put back deep or near the line he is more than capable . The other guys however were inconsistent BUT rookies !

I believe in the philosophy that if you feel as an organization you have a position of strength or stabilization, ADD to it and make it stronger. Garrett has paraphrased this line of thinking in the past, but then you have idiot Jerry Jones being interviewed in the media and essentially saying that they're okay at safety. It's a conflict of interest between owner and coach and that's why we've been consistently mediocre for a long time now.

Provide the quote where Jones said we were set at safety. I'll wait.

You mean we can't expect a 3rd round rookie and a UDFA rookie to play perfect every snap? Balderdash!!

A fast TE in the slot? Watch more tape dude. Besides Rbs out of backfield, when has he prevented a completion? Great tackler, love his character..but he is todays RW.

I kept saying this all offseason. Dallas really likes what they have in Wilcox and Heath. They played alot in their rookie yrs. And naturally they struggled. Both were small school guys. Game was too fast but playing that first yr will only do good for them because they have the exp and know what to expect.

Jerry at the NFL combine:

"And frankly, we like where we are with our young guys; some of them don't have the time on them they need, but we like where we are at safety."

Yeah, there ya go.

What Jerry says prior to the draft has no bearing whatsoever on what we actually believe or do in the draft...

That's an opinion, though. Sometimes, if not most of the time, Jerry can reveal hints as to what the organization is planning to do.

Last year he said defensive line was an area of strength, and they followed up by not selecting a defensive lineman in the draft.

I agree about Wilcox and Church. It is year three on the Matt Johnson experiment. I will go out on a limb :eek:just because I've heard whispers about MJ being a ballhawk, that he will make a mark this year.

We have tried the veteran FA guys aside from Allen we had guys like Abraham Elam and Brodney Pool, of course Sensebaugh, etc. I like that we are going to try to give young guys a chance, it is tough because you have to develop talent, but the other way wasn't working.

I'm fine with this approach. Sometimes you just have to give some guys a chance. Can't fix everything this year but enough picks to do some good restocking. Interested in seeing what they patch up in the draft and what they roll the dice with.
