I think people believe the team has unlimited picks.

Dline is priority and it's not close.

Guard is probably second if Leary's knees are in fact degenerating.

To me linebacker is next because frankly what are the chances Lee and Carter play an entire season?

Safety in all likelihood falls fourth in priority but if you don't get one of the top free safeties (and I'm talking three) what's really the point?

Think the team needs a WR also and with this draft being so deep at the position I'd be disappointed if they didn't add one.

I wouldn't be upset at all if the team drafted Brooks in the third rd, but I'll be horribly disappointed if the team passes on Donald or a Barr to draft Calvin Pryor and I really like the player. The Cowboys need to stockpile dlineman, it's been far too long.

Brooks is another guy who won't be a star his rookie year, he needs time, but I like him as a pure FS, would love for us to draft him.

I agree about Wilcox and Church. It is year three on the Matt Johnson experiment. I will go out on a limb :eek:just because I've heard whispers about MJ being a ballhawk, that he will make a mark this year.

I mean his college highlight tape was definitely impressive but even if he does actually play this year, will he make it through the season? I would like to see a MJ-Wilcox safety duo, but please no Heath lol.

Well, it doesn't matter if we have Ronnie Lott and Ed Reed back there if the QB has 5+ seconds to throw every play.

Improve our pass rush and the entire secondary will play better.

Jerry at the NFL combine:

"And frankly, we like where we are with our young guys; some of them don't have the time on them they need, but we like where we are at safety."

Yeah, there ya go.

Touche. I hadn't seen or read that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't draft a safety at all. Clinton-Dix and Pryor were never the 10 yr plan at safety imo, they aren't Eric Berry/Earl Thomas caliber prospects. They might make sense for a team that feels their defense is a safety away from greatness but not here. Also doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to spend yet another 4th on a safety. I'm still high on Wilcox as a potential starter

wilcox has the speed, and showed some flashes of ability. Need more consistency, and ballhawking from him. Really miss the Marion Barber, Woody type....

I believe in the philosophy that if you feel as an organization you have a position of strength or stabilization, ADD to it and make it stronger. Garrett has paraphrased this line of thinking in the past, but then you have idiot Jerry Jones being interviewed in the media and essentially saying that they're okay at safety. It's a conflict of interest between owner and coach and that's why we've been consistently mediocre for a long time now.

Garrett has said the philosophy is draft best player available, not for need necessarily. That's why he was clueless when Jerry went Frederik.

You mean we can't expect a 3rd round rookie and a UDFA rookie to play perfect every snap? Balderdash!!

We set records in crappy pass defense... Carr was leaving Megatron to the safeties in the zone, and no safeties were there. How about semi-decent, instead of perfect?

At some point, an organization just has to have faith in its ability to evaluate talent. They drafted Wilcox and Johnson with high future expectations and signed Barry Church to a multi-year deal. If this organization is ever going to get back to elite status, mid-round selections like Wilcox and Johnson have to pan out. You can't go in expecting them to fail; that's self-defeating.

Picking a safety in the first round is no guarantee. The Saints did and they went back to the well this year and singed Byrd to a huge contract. The Niners did and he cost them the game in the playoffs against the Seahawks.

IMO we are 2-3 years away, so drafting a S this year is not a need. We have a year to see what we have if anything. OL and DL are critical, QB and LB are next. This team needs a FA S anyway, because apparently they can't draft one.

I feel like if we wasted a 1st round pick on a safety and he didnt light the world on fire his rookie year, this board would want us to take another safety next year and bemoan that we dont have an eye for talent and woe is me, we need backfield help. Ppl were making this same argument that having Claiborne and Carr in the backfield would make our secondary so much better. and yet they still were getting carved up. PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE build from the front and the back will get better.

I could see drafting safety a priority if there were a true impact player available. Pryor and Clinton-Dix are the highest rated of a weak class. Dallas was very interested in Vacaro (sp?) last season and rightfully so. The guy was a beast before getting injured last year. There isn't a Vacaro in the draft this year. I honestly don't see a guy in this draft that has any more upside than Church or Wilcox.

Maybe the Cowboys see the same thing and, as far as the draft goes, they do feel "set". Tough to say.
