The Cowboys want a tight end to open up the field for their offense. They know Dak’s best throws are the intermediate tight end routes. Jesse Holley calls them Flexy Sexy…..
The tight end doesn't open up the offense at all a WR who can separate down field does. They drop the ball if they go TE in round 1.

Really? So many board GMs. You are untitled to your opinion but don’t act like you know who is going to be a bust or not. Tyler was the best offensive lineman in the draft last season and most of the board thought the Cowboys were idiots to draft him. It’s lying season I am not sure who the Cowboys will pick at 26 and if it is a tight end they pick so be it.

You don’t understand football if you don’t understand how a good tight end would open things up for CeeDee/Cooks.

I wish all the teams ahead of us valued the TE position like we do so they are all gone by the time we pick but sadly they aren't that dumb and have QBs who can throw the ball down field.
I think GB is the only team that had a 30 visit with Mayer and they just jumped up to 13 so I doubt they take him that early.

He’s starting to feel inevitable for us…and the worst part is I’d bet money there will be a 1st round DE on the board and we’ll take Mayer instead.

People put way too much stock in Top 30 visits. Combine visits are just as “important” as officials for some teams.

I haven’t looked at that…do you know who he met with at the combine picking ahead of us?

Kincaid would be a terrible choice. He’s more of a big receiver than a TE. He will add zero as a blocker. That would give us 3 TE’s that can’t block. No thank you.
Ferguson can block.

Well if they do it's because they put hours into the player, spoke to his coaches, spoke with his trainers, put him in front of a dry board drawing up plays, watched him at the combine, and are leaning on their scouting departments professional opinion. Not because they watched a few YouTube videos and made a really cool Brugler/Zierlein/McShay/Kiper spreadsheet.

Ive heard they may be down on him from Broaddus. Did he say their concerns were receiving production or something else
Whats going to be hilarious is when Washington shows everyone his catching ability, turns out to be the best TE out of this class as a blocker and catcher, and we sit there and say "he didnt fit our prototype of Jason Witten".

Cant wait for that to happen.

McCarthy saying if there is a 6'4 250 pound guy that you cant have enough of them.

Guess how much Mayer weighs and how tall he is.
Interesting read and breaks down the typical McCarthy TE. They are typically 6’4, 250 with high RAS scores. He typically uses TEs in his offense to have an average 1-2 yards per route and be a safety valve.

Packers always had a great receiver room. Guess what? Dallas has 3 legit receivers

While there are some outliers on this list, there is a clear type that McCarthy prefers here. A McCarthy tight end will generally be around 6’4” or 6’5”, weigh between 245 and 260 pounds, and have an elite (80th percentile or higher) RAS. This allows McCarthy to still use his tight ends in a more traditional blocking role, but they have the athleticism to threaten defenses down the seam while also producing yards after the catch.

I think someone posted that our three 1st round picks weren't top 30 visits

True........but MM was great at getting high production from mid-level receivers ( Jordy Nelson ) This is why I don't see them using 26 at WR.

That sounds like there's dissension in the War Room, if you're looking for a reason to NOT pick someone that's high on your board.
Like hoping someone else does it for us so we can do something more exciting.

Not sure if there are official lists out there. At the time reports were he met with a bunch of teams and was getting rave reviews.

Yes, they likely will be doing all of that and also ignoring the data that clearly shows the best TEs in football are above average athletes and he is not.

And if he doesn’t, can’t wait for the Washington fans to admit they fell too much in love with “measurables”.
