The more I read and research what the media is saying

I really think they will end up
1>Gibbs
2>TE LaPorta or Kraft
3>Zavala
4>Cory Trice
5>DT like Lacy or Roy
6> Moody or Ryland
Dane who is one of the better insiders, has all the top 6 gone by 64, 5 by the top 50 where LaPorta is at 64.

Because he’s about as athletic as a sack of potatoes and built like a refrigerator with arms.

Nearly everyone sees this.
Is that why he can make all those amazing catches because he lacks athleticism? LOL

Everyone see it eh? Is that why he is the consensus #1 TE in an incredible TE draft?

Just look at that 3rd catch with the one hand and tell me he isnt athletic. Enjoy!

You know Kincaid is the consensus #1 TE right?

You keep saying Mayer is but he’s not. A lot of people share my opinion.

I am thinking more and more, that 1st round will be the best player that can help us right away.

I also think 2nd round is where we fill our one really true NEED - LG. Avilla would be great - maybe we trade up a bit to get him if he falls to mid 2nd round, if not, Zavala or Bergeron.

This is the week to take anything anyone says with a grain of salt. Most everything is smoke oe trying to convince other teams they aren't interested in this or that guy so to get teams to overthrow a player.
McClay does his homework and no way Washington is a 30 visit if they didn't have interest. You don't waste 30 visits on guys you zero interest in drafting if they are at the position you feel is right for them.

It’s simply just stating he is a great TE who will be a starter day one. But he is likely maxed speed wise and frame wise. He likely never puts up Kelce or Kittle numbers, but he’s a great player.
Kelce numbers? Hes the best TE in NFL history and has Mahomes throwing to him. Put him on KC and I bet he gets close to Kelce numbers.

TE's to me are as much about blocking as catching passes. Mayer maxes is out the blocking as much as you can without diminishing his ability to catch. Otherwise your just getting a big slow WR. Give me the Gronks. Give me the Wittens. Those guys can put up 1000 yards and 8-10 TD's in the right offense.

Gronk > Kelce

Tony Gonzales > Kelce

Then Kelce

1990s mindset

It’s 2023. The best TEs in this league are pass catchers.

You don’t draft a 1990s style of TE in the first round.

That’s about as dumb as drafting a RB with a top 5 pick.

That is debatable. All of them are right there.

If you watch Mayer you see a tough, emotional leader. He will be a captain of the offense. He will be a leader. The Mike Irvin of the offense. Great routes, gets open, amazing hands and nasty in the run game. Perfect 3rd down and GL target. Seam guy.

If your KC then maybe you take Kincaid or LaPorta who I like also. For the type of offense Dallas wants with running the ball, Mayer is the perfect all around TE.

Not if you want to run the ball its not. Which is what we want to improve on the most.

Werent you just saying in another thread how we need to take the ball out of Dak's hands and run the ball?

Now you want to get him Kincaid so we can pass more? OOPS!

You don’t need to spend a first round pick on a TE to run the ball.

If that’s your mindset we would be better off drafting one of the guards or getting Washington in the 2nd who will be the best blocking TE in the NFL the day he steps on the field.

Jake Ferguson can block.

I want to do both. Mayer gives you the best of both worlds and the true nasty leader the offense needs. He would be Daks favorite target on 3rd down and GL.

Kindcaid would be a faster Shultz. I wouldnt cry if we drafted Kincaid. But I would rather have Laporta in the 2nd.

If the Cowboys like another TE late in the 1st or trading down into the 2nd round over Darnell Washington, they are making a big mistake. Darnell Washington is the most complete TE in this year's draft. Superior size, excellent blocker and good pass catcher who is aggressive running for YAC (yards after the catch).
Only thing that scares me is....occasionally he will drop a ball. :banghead:......But he is such an unusual prospect....freak athlete. If we take him @ 26...I wouldn't have a problem with it.

And yet, he's probably the top TE on more mocks and draft analysts boards than Washington.

Listening to you guys, you would think Mayer is a 7th round prospect.
