- what some of these people are failing to see is McClay has to cater to what the coaches prefer, scheme-fit, regardless of what his personnel staff has put together on their value board.
- His staff likely had TJ Watt rated ahead of Taco Charlton, but if he has to listen to what key coaches prefer and get them that kind of player,
then he (McClay) has to cater to them (coaches) to best of his ability, thus the big mistake to pick Taco over Watt because Marinelli insisting upon " length"
- take the 1 tech role as well. McClay could normally want to draft the Lindvall Joseph types in the 2nd or 3rd round, and see those difference making
run stuffers make their impact and go to the pro bowls ... but since Marinelli doen't care to value and invest in the top quality of those types, McClay has
to cater to the street free agents and cheap run of the mill bargain based types (ala Woods, Richard Ash, McClain, Thorton, that continue to be a revolving door for these team and contributes to the ever going struggle that we have in the middle interior.
- the Kellen Moores ? McClay has to take an ear to register what kind of utility backup RB Moore is trying to acquire and
bring those physical tools and skill set to the offense he was/is revamping ... etc. etc.
It is up to the personnel team to decide what round and best value to draft this particular player ..and seek out the skill set and preference of these players (ala 1 tech) at a suitable rate for these coaches (ala Rod M.)
- Bottom line, get these type of bum coaches outta here, so a McClay doesn't have to play fiddle to them come offs eason time.
