It'd be great if some of these low-round rookie DLs end up taking significant reps for us in the base defense down the road. I like all of 'em, including what little we got to see of Gardener early on.

I'd love to go into next season with the cheap but capable DT group of Crawford, McClain, Brent, Coleman and Bishop.

At DE we have DLaw, Mincey, ?Spencer and hopefully a draft pick and a quality FA.

In the past I thought we should swing for the fences for the DE pass rusher but now I think we should just look for a quality young player who is productive and of high character. I think those are the guys you win with and we cannot afford to break the bank and go after a guy like Justin Houston or Hardy with our other needs.

I think the team will dip their toes in FA to see how deep they'll have to go get one of the top tier DL available. Ultimately they'll probably be forced to pass.

We also have Ben Gardner on IR. He's a late round pick I know, but I'd like to see what he has.

Reasonable thinking no doubt, making Marinellie happy will be paramount, me thinks

Any effort like that would probably have the same result of Jarod Allen when he visited last spring. We are not going to break the bank for anyone. Thank goodness!

Can we add Okoye to that group

What the DL could look like minus signing pending UFA's like Spencer, Selvie & Hayden...picking up Melton's option, and any free agent or draft additons.....

LDE: Ben Gardner, Lavar Edwards, Ken Boatright, Jack Crawford
1Tech: Brent, Bishop, T. McClain, Okoye
3Tech: Crawford, T. McClain, Chris Whaley, Okoye, Coleman, Jack Crawford
RDE: Mincey, Lawrence, Boatright

If only we'd kept Ben Bass . . . . .

More of these developmental guys miss than make it. You can't keep 'em all, and they gotta show progress. But the ones who do, and then who can sustain it, are jackpots for teams that miss on picks elsewhere. We bring in more guys this way than most teams, so it's not shocking that we end up having some success via that route, too.
