I stopped reading the article from this "writer" as soon as I read "subject manor"...really? not subject MATTER?

Broaddus is a former scout. A typo/misspelling actually takes away from his credibility?:lmao:

I don't want to read much into Orton's play in OTAs/minicamp. There really isn't any reason for his skills to suddenly fall off.

I can understand the desire to have insurance just in case it's happened, but I don't see Young as much insurance. I also don't see wasting a "third-QB" roster spot on him just so he can run scout team.

If Dallas has concerns about Orton, then the team needs to keep looking and trying to claim QBs who might have the ability to drive the bus for a few games if Romo's out. Young isn't a bus driver; he's a race-car driver who crashes far too often.

Can't argue with any of that. :)

I think I was just scarred by having to watch Johnson play in 08.

If Orton can't do the job of the #2 QB, then that would completely change the question. If they are looking for a #2 QB, then VY might be a good option; however, he just does not make sense as a #3 QB. If you use the valuable resource of an extra roster spot carrying 3 QBs, then 1 of them should be a young developmental type.

This team does not develop young quarterbacks.

That is another reason I would have no problem having Young as the #3.

Here is what I don't like to hear about Orton. When you read what little we are getting, the problem with Orton is not that he is going to the wrong target or that he is making mental mistakes in the offense. The problem is that he is short arming everything and that he is having accuracy issues. It's the start of the TC. His arm should be as fresh as it's going to be all season. Overthrowing WR, OK, but short arming balls is a totally different problem and it should not be happening now, at this time of the year. That's a problem we should be seeing at the end of training camp, not at the beginning of mini camp guys.

I think there is reason to be concerned here guys. If not VY, then I think we should be considering somebody because this should not be happening right now.

That's exactly what has me concerned. These reports we are getting are very very similar to the ones we got during the 2008 TC with Brad Johnson. Maybe it's mental with Orton and he has the tips for some reason. Maybe it's nothing and I'm jumping at shadows.

The real problem is that the options out there are pretty much all like VY.

How many active QBs in the NFL have a worse career INT% than Vince Young?

I think it would change the question, but it still wouldn't make Young the answer. If Young is the only choice, then I'd wait to see if a better option becomes available.

The only thing I can come close to agreeing with about Young is having him in training camp for some read-option practice for the defense. But I believe Dallas can accomplish that just as well with someone like Dwayne Harris playing that role (or some scrub already on the roster who isn't even going to make the team). It isn't about completing the pass in that kind of situation (so you don't need a real QB, which in a way supports getting Young :) ), but about the linemen and linebackers being able to read the play.
