Man that 2004 draft pissed me off! Steven Jackson fell right to us, and we needed him bad! Couldnt believe we traded down for julius.
Then w the the extra first the following year we take felix jones, sigh...
Those who talk about wasting Romos career could look right there!
S Jax was a hell of a back for 6-7 years imo

Maybe he shouldn't be the one buying the groceries. ?.
Hes the last dude I would let near the shopping list! I love Parcells the character and even as an outdated coach with great concepts, but this guy has been awful at gm imo way to much to list but he ruined the Dolphins! He should be villified for ever for passing on Matt Ryan for an OT a bust OT at that! Look at what the Miami fans have suffered thru! He had Jay freakin Fiedler maaaan!!!

They took DWare and Spears the following year (2005).

Felix was 2008.

But to be fair he found and developEd Romo
I was a henson guy back then, I just thought romo would be a marc bulger type at best. I think in some ways his being able to find romo undrafted gave him an arrogance that he could find a good qb anywhere and franchise crushing mistakes like passing on matt ryan

Not sure that's a fair criticism these days. We may take risks in the 2nd, but we've been playing it safe in the first.

Yes and no. We ended up playing it safe in the 1st round because our maneuvering hasn't worked out. We have then just been incredibly fortunate that such solid players have been available. We do get some credit for knowing to take them, but it would not be accurate to suggest that Jones just sat back and these players have landed in our laps. Zeke may be the exception, but at #4 he was obvious given what makes our offense run.

It's impossible to know if other teams don't end up playing it safe after exploring riskier options, so hard to cite that as any real sort of proof. Exploring is something you want your staff doing on draft night, as long as they don't make any stupid decisions as a result.

I don't think taking an RB at #4 was an obvious decision by any stretch, but who knows, maybe it was for them.

Glad to see a lot of people agreeing with me.

Someone on this board still has a quote of mine in his signature where I called Bill Parcells out on slowing the recovery of this team.

The move to the 3-4 and the two tight end system that no one was prepared to adapt to was killer.

We drafted a lot of players as someone mentioned that were big in slow when the NFL was getting a lot faster.

His ego definitely got in the way of progress. I still say he ruined Julius Jones and Drew Henson. He really botched drafted Steven Jackson. And could have botched drafting DeMarcus Ware.

I would say that Zeke outside of these off the field issues was the obvious pick. Given our offensive line and QB situation and who we had a RB, Zeke would help more than any other player in the draft.
