- Usual suspects - Dak, Jerry, etc - will get blamed but defense was terrible and Saints scored on EVERY drive which quickly made the Cowboys one dimensional team
- Saints play a lot of base defense to take advantage of teams relying on nickel and dime defenses.
- Overshown is not in the base package. Liafu, Clark, Kendricks.
- Maybe Zimm needs consider Overshown and his speed more in the base but anyone watching film will be disappointed in Overshown. Overran a lot of plays. Rookie blues.
- All LBs looked bad including Kendricks, but Saints blockers were quickly getting out there past defensive line and LBs can’t hang with that.
- Cowboys DT group in trouble. They are bad. Linval Joseph and Phillips can’t play. Maybe play Mazi some more because he had some okay plays but he looks bad too. Phillips not same player was last year when I watched him. Gone downhill.
- Saints are a great team. Terrific blockers. Smart offense. They trap, get guys stuck inside, take advantage of defenses to mask their own deficiencies.
- Tank and Parsons were both fooled a lot. Thought they were getting one blocker and then double teamed.
- Yes, Saints did a lot same plays they did with Panthers but there is only a small window on their new offense to watch.
- A lot of ‘one of those days’ plays. Dak interception caused by Brooks slipping on the route, otherwise probably a big play.
I would give Jospeh more time. He missed camp and has to play himself into shape. Phillips was with the Giants so he should already be in shape. I disagree with Bryan that he was any good last year. He wasn't. And the Giants knew he had nothing this year. I actually think Carl Davis or Justin Rogers would give us more at DT than Phillips. But it is only 2 games. Maybe he can turn things around.
I also think Overshown has to be playing more. It is not just his speed. He plays with more aggression than the rest of the Cowboys and maybe that will rub off on some of the other players. They need to be more active and aggressive on defense. They are too soft.
Brooks looks like he is one of those guys who looked good in preseason but in the regular season he falls down, literally. On Dak's first INT, if Brooks keeps his feet, he is in position to catch the ball that was picked off. It would have been yards and a first down. I still think Flournoy is the guy who should be on the field. He looked good in preseason because he ran great routes, not because he was playing scrubs.
