My big concern is with the failure of Mazi the Cowboys will not draft another DT in the first round for another 30 years.

They had a chance to sign several quality DTs this year but their philosophy is to do nothing there.
Here are some DT's that were brought in by the Cowboys that I remember:

Bob Lilly
Leon Lett
Jethro Pugh
Tony Casillas
Chad Hennings
Russell Maryland

But here we are...

With our $60M QB

LOL.

DTs are a problem.

Who woulda thunk that?

I can't tell if Jerry/Stephen are stupid or stubborn but their total neglect of the position is weird. Yeah, they took Mazi but he struggled as a rookie so why not give yourself some insurance?
Literally everyone on this forum would pretty much agree DTs were a problem heading into this season. And none of us are NFL coaches (I presume).

It’s Jerry and the gang. They do not value the position, and it absolutely bites them in the bootius maximus every year.

But Mazi? Hill? Collins? Those were all high draft picks. Does the DT scouting just suck that bad? I thought when drafted at the very least Mazi would have been a decent run stopper by now. Who’s calling the DT picks? The same person who wanted Taco over that other guy?

Yet for some reason I’m concerned that Mazi’s increasing level of JAGness is going to scare them off from investing valuable draft picks into the position in the future. Ugh.

Whatever. I need to go to bed.

Russell Maryland was the last 1st round DT they drafted before Mazi. That was 1991. Since then the drafted 1 DT in the first round which is Mazi, and 1 in the 2nd, which was Trysten Hill. That is 1 first round pick and 1 second round pick in 32 years. In fact in 32 years they have drafted only 10 DTs in the first 4 rounds.

DTs are not marketable players and don’t sell jerseys.

The team gets gashed up the gut against better teams routinely, yet management either doesn’t see it or refuses change.

They certainly try…..1st round, 2nd round, multiple 3rds, several late rounders…..also cheap free agents….and they have pretty much failed at each.

The only thing left is to actually pay for a proven veteran, but pay a big contract without getting the benefit of a partial return on merch sales? Not gonna happen….and why they will continue to lose when it counts most.

They value the marketability of corners and receivers much more than the trenches, and even the most loyal defenders of this clown act have to admit that.

The ineptitude of Washington and NY make many people seem better at what they do than they actually are.

Jerry paid CD, Dak and now has to pay Parsons; the well is dry, these 3 players will account for a sizable portion of Dallas’ allocated cap space making it difficult to bring in a stud OL or DL to shore the lines. Moreover, at some point in the very near future Jerry will have to replace Martin…the glue that holds the OL together, as his replacement is not on the roster.

  • Usual suspects - Dak, Jerry, etc - will get blamed but defense was terrible and Saints scored on EVERY drive which quickly made the Cowboys one dimensional team
  • Saints play a lot of base defense to take advantage of teams relying on nickel and dime defenses.
  • Overshown is not in the base package. Liafu, Clark, Kendricks.
  • Maybe Zimm needs consider Overshown and his speed more in the base but anyone watching film will be disappointed in Overshown. Overran a lot of plays. Rookie blues.
  • All LBs looked bad including Kendricks, but Saints blockers were quickly getting out there past defensive line and LBs can’t hang with that.
  • Cowboys DT group in trouble. They are bad. Linval Joseph and Phillips can’t play. Maybe play Mazi some more because he had some okay plays but he looks bad too. Phillips not same player was last year when I watched him. Gone downhill.
  • Saints are a great team. Terrific blockers. Smart offense. They trap, get guys stuck inside, take advantage of defenses to mask their own deficiencies.
  • Tank and Parsons were both fooled a lot. Thought they were getting one blocker and then double teamed.
  • Yes, Saints did a lot same plays they did with Panthers but there is only a small window on their new offense to watch.
  • A lot of ‘one of those days’ plays. Dak interception caused by Brooks slipping on the route, otherwise probably a big play.

How does the defense allowing scoring keep our own offense from doing the same?
