Sounds like he's moderating his tone a bit.

Ouch,,, basically it's a diplomatic way of saying "we didn't say we don't like him, he's just not good enough".

I think he's much improved and I'd probably be more confident with him starting than some other possibilities (Bern, Cook, Killer). I think Costa deserves a starting spot. He's definitely one of our top 3 interior linemen. Hopefully he could play RG because it looks like Fred will be C. They have been running some offenses with Costa at C and Fred at RG. Who knows.

the 1st thing to figure out is if brodiaus is worth a flip. if not, and from what i can tell isn't, what he says doesn't mean much.

but it does feed agendas.

Total cop out answer on his part. I didn't say I didn't like him? Um, if he thinks they're "going with someone else," there must be a reason, right? So what the heck is that reason, Broaddus? Some of these guys are ridiculous, too afraid to actually give an opinion, so they come up with non-answers like this.

brodias and his cred, to date, are not worth much.

I don't think Arkin is playing as good as everyone thinks. Just from watching some of the highlights I still see him getting beat while pass blocking fairly easily and he doesn't get any push in the running game. Understand, I hope he pans out for the sake of our team but I by no means would get overly exited just because of what people are writing about him.

Yes it does. Not sure how he could like Arkin and the team go with someone else in the context of his job unless he likes guys who just aren't that good.

OT: That sig pic showing up the size of a calendar for anyone else?

As someone who has been as down on Arkin as I have been, I see some light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully not an oncoming train.

This staff has NO cred as regards developing interior O linemen. So anything that they say or are rumored to say I treat with a boulder sized grain of salt.

BUT enough OTHER people have said he has improved to the point where he will not HOPEFULLY be a disaster like Costa was does give some room for optimisim.

He washed his hands of Arkin a long time ago. So he's willing to admit he's playing better but he doesn't think he's starting material. He believes that he'd just a place holder for Bernadeau. (which is what I think the smart money says also)

And that's very possible.

This is what I believe.

In a perfect scenario, I think the Cowboys would like to see Leary, Fred, and Bern starting in the interior of the o-line. Worst case scenario would likely be Leary, Costa, and Fred.

I have always pulled for Arkin but I don't think he competes for a starting job; Watters would be the best alternative if another projected/potential starting guard goes down.

If Arkin has been performing well, why refuse to play him? I'm stunned by people's refusal to acknowledge that Arkin may have improved.

You may be right on this. I've wondered if the coaches saw Arkin that way from the start of camp. With Leary, we keep hearing that the coaches are high on him and want him to win the job, but there has been none of that that I'm aware of with Arkin. I get the feeling that even with him playing well, they're going to give him a starting job grudgingly. It's hard to get much of a feel for it, since Bernadeau doesn't seem to be very near practicing yet. But the positives we hear about Arkin are coming from the journalists, and there's not much "the coaches love what they see in him" filtering out. I'd love to see him beat out Berny, but I still wouldn't bet the rent money on it. I just get a feeling that from the team's point of view it's Bernadeau's job to lose when he comes back.
