Exactly, take Ro for example. if a former 8th overall pick can't contribute after being out for two years then how could Bent bring anything to the table after being out for two years....oh, wait a minute. ...

LOL. 'Genius'. :)

Generally, it's hard to have a take on a guy without actually seeing him...

...but anyone can logically conclude that a guy who has been out of football so long and had such a tumultuous time off the field would struggle to make any impact once they get back on it. There are very real reasons to be doubtful of any production from Brent, regardless of if you've seen him or not.

And you'd be right. But the fact he's gotten this far says a lot. You can't write him off anymore than you can plug and play.

Yea, that's fair.

Maybe I'm just a cynic but I have a hard time believing that a guy can go so long not playing football and come in and make an impact. Maybe a few games to get acclimated, like Spencer, could make a difference. Time will tell.

Broaddus has done a reviewing Okoye piece but he hasn't done one on Brent. He has had no football take on why he doesn't feel so.

When Broaddus gives reasons then I listen but when he doesn't like he often does talking about offensive skill players then I don't.

I have heard Carter, Spencer, Church, and Okoye all talk about how well he has looked. Players were buying into RoMclain before anyone else did too.

Broaddus on twitter is usually meaningless. He just answers twitter questions with the first thought that come to mind. He gives things more thought if when he writes and article.

Broaddus has been skeptal of him since Day one. The defensive players seem very excited about him.

you never know what will motivate a person. if he is motivated i.e. Ro McClain, you never know. honestly can he be any worse than Hayden?

One positive with Brent that gives me some hope is the work he put in while away with Andre Gurode. Still not expecting a lot out of him but good to know he has not just been sitting around.

Brent, who was convicted of intoxication manslaughter in the Dec. 8, 2012 death of former Cowboys teammate Jerry Brown Jr., met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Aug. 7 and is awaiting word of whether he can resume his NFL career. The Cowboys have made it clear they will welcome 26-year-old Brent back to compete for a job if he receives a favorable ruling from Goodell.
“He’s looking good,” Gurode said of Brent. “Physically strong. Motivated. Very much centered. He’s ready to contribute in any way. He’s been working his butt off. He’s looked very impressive.”

Brent and Hankins are nearly the same guy. Both ~6'2" and 320 pounds.
Both will be very good if playing 20-25 plays per game.
Most of what they showed of Hankins versus Dallas was him running on and off the field.

Just because they're the same size doesn't mean they're the same guy. Hankins was a monster in college and is showing the same in the pros.

As few have mentioned above, Ro and Spencer is doing OK after being out of football for awhile.

Also, I'll take players word over Broaddus'. Players actually saw him and know what kind of shape he is in opposed to Broaddus who hasn't even seen him since Brents been back.

It should be mentioned that Broddius hasn't even seen Josh Brent practicing yet. He is just concerned he came in too heavy.

sigh... Brent was arguably better in college having actually started as a freshman on.
Otherwise their stats and pre-draft workout numbers are nearly identical except Brent has been a knucklehead off the field.

As a pro Brent played NT in a role meant to keep the LB free as he ate two gaps.
Hankins is a 2 down run stuffer that is very strong and can push the pocket much like Brent.
Anyone whose watched even 5 minutes of each guy will tell you they are very similar.

If Brent can eat those gaps again and free up our LBs look out!

I am now of the mind that Broaddus is biased against Brent's return to the team. Just heard him nuh-uh a comment about Brent being able to go to London.

The modified agreement lets Brent return to Valley Ranch for meetings and workouts two weeks sooner than he otherwise could have. He will still miss the team's first 10 games, but he will be allowed to travel with the team to London where they will play the Jaguars on November 9. Under the original suspension terms, Brent would not have been eligible to travel with the Cowboys until he was cleared to play.

"He has been working, and we will continue that work," Jones said. "He should get in here, and if he gets the work done and gets his weight right through conditioning, he may find himself a chance to get on the field."

I don't think Broaddus is credible on this subject at all.

It does make sense that Brent wont hit the ground running. However, he might be in beast mode by the play offs.

Mickey said he looked huge, but that might well have changed even in the interim. At 340, dropping 25 pounds is not what it is at 180. It's two weeks of restraint and a bowel movement.
.

How do y....errr...who have y.... nevermind

Kudos for field work. I learned something here today
