Brock Purdy on why he took a team friendly contract

thing is he made it our business. “the brotherhood” is one of the all time bad answers / reasons. especially as fellow brothers are not doing the same
And especially since "the brotherhood" suffers the more Dak makes.

Lol! Salary cap is a myth, we had money left last year, is it up to dak whether Jerry uses it or not?
Oh, and I'm curious. If it's a myth, then why are teams constantly having to let players walk that they do not want to lose, but are forced to?

I guess I gotta say, I'm a little shocked that you've bought into this. Despite your obsession w/ "haters", I've always considered you a knowledgeable fan. Confusing.

That's the myth, they need money, cut someone. That's why players should get what they can. Owners and fans dont care about them.

Wonder if the fact that those guys were raised in stable, upper middle class or higher, families....while Dak's family struggled. Single parent, that suffered through cancer and the financial stress that comes with that, have anything to do with that. I know I was the youngest of 4 boys, by 5 to 10 years, had something to do with the person I became. A butt hole that doesn't take crap from anyone.
Daks first season garnered him 5 times his salary in endorsements alone just because he was the QB of America's Team and has since had the highest contracts in the NFL.

His generational wealth could support many families many times over so the sob story is bull.

The difference is Dak and those other Qbs is that Dak values MONEY over championships.......and as a devout capitalist I respect his choice to do so.......hes made his choice and he owns it

On a personal level, fans don't, and shouldn't.

"Getting what you can" is an accurate thought, but after several millions it becomes pure greed, and shows a lack of desire to win and lack of personal integrity.

Not a sob story, it was a question. Your tunnel vision and Dak hate goggles, impedes you from understand. You're just another hater...your name fits you...at least the last three letters

Texas has no state income tax so he's making much less than Dak despite beating Dak in the playoffs and taking his team to the Super Bowl which Dak has never accomplished.

The jock tax, which exists is most states is a huge bite. Most athletes see less than half of their actual contracts in any state.

Why would anyone take less to play here? The FO doesn't do anything with the savings. This has been the first season in a while that we've actually made a solid aggressive trade, aka for George Pickens.

Also, with the constant 'prove it' negotiation strategy of Stephen Jones, it pretty much makes players go for max money. Anyone think Micah Parsons is going to give us some amazing discount? I think not. Did Ceedee? No. We're constantly paying this record or near record contracts for a reason. It starts at the top.

Name calling? Really?

You're better than that.....of course I'll give you a pass if its your time of the month.

The brotherhood got a lot of QBs and other players huge contracts, including Purdy. He should not have said it, I agree with that....but, it's real and I'm sure those players know it. Everytime someone breaks the bank, they are happy knowing their time is coming. Fans are the only ones that don't get it
Right. I have no interest in other qb's getting paid. I am a fan of the Cowboys and what's best for them. Dak can go for as much money as he possibly can and I don't begrudge him. But "for the brotherhood" just left the worst taste in my mouth. Qb's have been the highest paid in the sport since it began, they will continue to be, and it's not because he or anyone else goes for every red cent. As evidenced by Mahomes, Allen, now Purdy. You can leave meat on the bone and still go away full.

Now I will say, due to the way they slow played him on his rookie contract, and tagging him, I don't blame him. But there's been three contracts since now and I just would really respect if he'd cut US a break. And thats just on principle alone. It's without getting into the history of his play.

Nice talk, but he asked for $65M per. San Fran wouldn't pay him and no other teams were calling.
so you want to tell me the owners of the niners didn't cave in to the demand? why didn't they just wait until last hour before the season to sign him....man, they are not that smart like jerry jones.

his initial ask was $65M. niners tried to trade him, but there were no takers....
niners played it smart. didn't cave in like idiot jerry jones.
they also didn't wait until last hour before season to sign him.
and the rest of this is just PR

this is not defense of Dak. but how things work in the NFL.

With what Josh Allen did, and now Purdy, Prescott's deal looks 20x worse than the unmitigated disaster it already was.

People look at Dak's $60m and Purdy's $53m per year and think they aren't that different.

That really isn't the case. Purdy took a 5 year backloaded deal where he put himself at risk. It will be easy for the 9er's to cut him in a few years. Its almost guaranteed that he never sees his last year making his contract less.

Dak took a poison pill 4 year deal where the Cowboys will have difficulty getting rid of him and likely will have to hand him every penny of the contract. Dak is the ONLY QB in the NFL that keeps demanding these 4 year deals too.

Overall, my issue with Dak isn't on the field or with him as a person. Its his financial "get my bag" attitude that has cost the team.
people get hung up on the salary per year and comparison of one QB to another QB salary.
the fact is that the cowboys have had the cap room to do what needs to be done. they have chosen not to. the all in BS from jerry is just that BS.
in the first 3 years of his first contract, his salary cap numbers were 17,19, 25....what did jerry do? yes, the last year was huge, but that happens with every large contract, because money gets pushed to the last year, they either re-up or they let them walk and take a big hit. we had 65M open on the cap this year.
to say Jerry hasn't managed the cap well and is not a player in FA to make this team better is the under statement of the year.

I am not defending Dak, his play or his salary. just that the salary and contract haven't been the show stoppers. Jerry and Stephen have been.
