Great post. Outstanding really. One of the best posts I've read on these forums in probably the entire time I've been here.

In regard to Garret, wasn't Sean Payton in a similar situation in NY in 2004? I seem to remember the Giants were really struggling a few games into the season, and Fossil stripped Payton of his playcalling duties, which changed the entire season, and propelled the Giants to the SuperBowl. Given Paytons success as a HC, I think most people forget that it ever happened. I wonder if we could follow suit....but who would call the plays?

Maybe we should replace Wade with Master Yoda. That's more inspiring than anything Bum's son has ever uttered.

Dude, if you don't start posting here more often, you should be hung by your balls!

I think I might get my grandmother to needlestitch that onto a pillow! (Uh-oh, she's dead. Maybe I can just post it on my site.) That's easily the best compliment I've ever received. Thank you, skinsscalper.

Alas shame and bloated financial contracts that usually produce un-inspired play dont seem to be hand in hand.....

We want them to be shamed...to hurt....to dig deep within themselves and show us something.

Far too often it does not happen. Probably the most disheartening aspect of it all.

Great to see you've got a sense of humor, my friend. However, with your ability to paint satire into a philosophical picture as seamlessly as you do, it comes as no surprise.

Good luck with your writing. You are quite gifted with the written word.

You know what I can't figure, Doc? When I hire people to collaborate with, I always seek folks who are as passionate about the work as I am. I don't understand why this notion is so foreign to pro football owners. Is "talent" really that blinding? (see: Ryan Leaf)

as football players you learn over time the best players play! that concept is lost on this team as the coaches try to make the owner look like a real GM!

I like your posts Warren. You might be to smart to be here.
I liked the part where you discuss the shame and the id. that is what my court-apointed tharapest always say.

i am with you on the defense. they played swell. to play this well aganst a qb like orton is a great thing. no, sirrie i place the blame on garrett and his confused playmaking!!!

You have the best possts here!!!

The defense plays well until that moment comes in the game where you realize, "If the defense gets THIS STOP we win the game," and the defense disappears as the opposing offense scores the game winner with laughing ease.

This defense can't man up on THE STOP to win games, and hasn't for a few seasons now. Its routine.

I don't necessarily disagree, RoadRunner, but why does this happen? If they can play better throughout the rest of the game, why do they collapse under pressure? Talent? Coaching? Conditioning? Psychological inferiority?

Its purely mental. The team, as a collective, expects to blow it. All the problems with this team are mental. They have more than enough talent to be one of the top 8 teams, but they lack the mental aspect to be a top 8 team.

This sums it up perfectly.

I knew as soon as we punted the ball back to Denver with the score being 10-10 that we were going to lose.

I looked over and told my girlfriend, "watch Denver drive right down the field and get a TD here". 3 plays later Marshall jumped over T-New and broke about 15 tackles as he walked into the endzone.

I just looked at my girlfriend and said, "see, happens every time."

Good read. A bit overdrawn but a good read if you like to be emotional touched by reading something.

In all the off-season chatter about leadership, he overlooked the most important element that it is not so much what you say as what you do. The answers don't matter, the attitude does. Romo is so concerned about making the right choices — whether when addressing reporters or reading defenses — that he is disassembling the very traits that made him successful in his first season. He is an instinctive player who is allowing Shame to change him rather than charge him.

This is one of the better paragraphs i have read in a while. Not because of the statements about Romo which are more assumptions then facts but for the truth about those statements in relation to life itself.

Outstanding post and belated welcome to the forum.

My fraternity has a saying, "I rather have 8 men thoroughly immersed, then 80 with lukewarm enthusiasm". I don't know whether we welted because of the quick Monday night turn around and high altitude but this weeks game will tell us a lot about our favorite football team. We will find out if the qb is good, if the oc is good, if the defense is good, if et al. How we respond this weekend will be pivotal, imo.

If we squeak by then we more then likely will be a mediocre team, if we dominate then we have a better than average chance to be good, and if we lose, I am swearing off football, lol.

Again thanks for the outstanding post and make sure you post more.

Is it possible that the mental breakdowns the defense suffers in the fourth quarter are similar to the ones you do? That is, might the defense feel so deflated by the offense's inability to close out a game or come back in close one despite how well the D played prior to then that they'd turn to their girlfriends and wives and think exactly the same?
