If this is true, it simply means the end for Johnson next year.
Regardless of how this all turns out, Johnson needs replaced next off season IMO.

Listen,...........You can only base an opinion of a player on his body of work in the NFL. Brooks Bollinger in his limited playing time has proven to be a better QB then Quincy Carter our former starter, Chad Hutchinson..our former starter, and Rodney Peete, backup to Aikman in a championship season. Those are the FACTS. Anything else is opinion. He can make a solid backup on this team. Granted, a bus driver type, BUT....he wont lose a game for you by being a bonehead, wont make the impulse interception to lose a game the way Carter, Hutch, or Mccown would. IMO this is what you want in a backup. Valley Ranch seems to agree with me so I think I'll put some validity into their thinking...LOL Plus,...as mentioned in the other Thread....The Paul Chryst connection. Our future offensive co............

Is this really a Garret move? I think brooks is a jerry guy. Who knows i could be wrong.

I don't think that Jerry would make any move at QB that Garrett isn't on board with...

Oh, sweet Jay-sus... THINK, Joe...

The Boys are 10 million under the cap right now, and the difference in the price tag between Bollinger and Simms would not be so great that Jerry would even blink at it...

It'd be more likely that Jerry would be worried about Chris playing without his spleen... there is some risk associated with that...

brad was teammates with bollinger in minnesotta, and to me, brad knows he would have no competition with bollinger at backup QB, (now with chris simms brad johnson would) so from what i have read on posts, thats why brad is pushing for bollinger

Yeah, the Boys are gonna sign Bollinger over Simms just to keep Brad from gettin' paranoid...

Honest to Gawd, you're a trip...

............Good work Silverbear. Nice to see someone actually putting in some research on the subject instead of just pulling guesses out of their backsides. There is alot more to like about Bollinger then meets the eye....

Simms has had a very difficult time learning the offense in Tampa. I can't imagine that Garrett, or Jerry really wants to take on this project at this point.

I don't either, and I'd much prefer Simms, but I think if Jason Garrett knows anything, it's what makes an NFL-caliber QB... so if the Boys go this way, I'll defer to that decision, and swallow my disappointment over not signing Simms...

Edit-- just went looking at his numbers over the past two seasons, here's what I found:

46 completions on 68 attempts (67.6%), for 537 yards (7.9 YPA), 1 TD and 2 ints... that works out to an 84.0 quarterback rating... the completion percentage, yards per attempt and quarterback rating are all quite good for a backup... especially when you factor in that he was sacked 13 times, meaning he was dumped right at once in every six times he dropped back... he did not get much pass protection... in addition, he completed 3 passes of 40 yards or more in those 68 attempts, so he wasn't just dumping the ball off...

Good stuff, SB.

And I do also think this is more of Garrett's opinion than JJ's opinion on Bollinger. I'm sure JJ defers to Garrett in terms of what he (Garrett) wants in a back-up QB. And as has been mentioned, given that we're $10mm under the cap, I doubt the price tag played that significant of a role.

Oh, I was less than enthused when I read about the Boys' interest in Bollinger, but I'm naturally curious, and I've got NFL.com bookmarked, so I went and took a look at his numbers...

Here's another thing to consider-- in his NFL career, he has dropped back to pass nearly 300 times, and only got a pass off 200 times (to be exact, he's been on the field for 298 pass plays, and has only thrown 201 passes)... he's been sacked 46 times, and had to run 41 times... IOW, about every third time he dropped back, he wound up running for his life... one assumes that he was under some pretty heavy pressure on at least some of the 201 passes he was able to get off, too...

That ain't no pass protection at ALL... I have to think he'd get a wee bit better protection behind the Boys' OL...

So once I went and looked at his numbers, and pondered them, I started to warm to the idea... and like I said, if Jason Garrett knows anything, it's what it takes to be a backup QB in the NFL...

But don't mistake me, I'm still hoping for Simms... he's the type of medium range passer who would work quite well in the Cowboys' system, IMO... and he's also suffered from working behind some less than stellar OLs in the NFL...

I hear ya Silverbear. I would be O.K with Simms but im not really all that high on him to be honest. Main reason is I dont think he fits the role down in Big D. Think he has enuff talent to Start somewhere. Think he tops off as a slightly above average STARTING qb if given time and put in the right enviroment. We have our starter in place for years to come and dont think Simms would be all that happy here. See's himself as a starter and in all reality deserves a chance to see if he can make that dream come true longterm somewhere.

........Because Bollinger isnt LONG TERM starting material but he can be a steady backup. The Vikes are still looking for their starter. In the end it will probably be Booty a year from now or so as T Jackson isnt really a starter either. Things are pretty muddled up there at the moment when it comes to the QB's. Right now the Vikes primary concern is finding a STARTER not a backup.

well...this is just stupid. bollinger has been in the league 5 years now and hasn't sniffed the field. he shouldn't even be in the league. the fact that he earns a pay check is a disgrace to all working americans.

he must have a hot wife or something

Because the Vikings spent an early 5th round DP or Booty, and Booty is 23 years old. Brooks Bollinger is currently 28 years old and has already proven that he is not the future of the Vikings, the Vikings are HOPING that Booty can develop into that.

Actually he has definitely sniffed the field, in 2005 he played in 11 games, in 2006 2 games, and 2007 he played in 5 games. He has a career completion percentage of 58.6% while throwing 8 TD's and 8 INT's.

So, instead of liking half our QBs, I'll like one third of them.

Hate this move if it happens.

if you can stuck on a nfl roster as a career back-up making minimum wages, you can have a hot wife too.
