Brooks Bollinger/Cowboys

I agree what a stupid move if they decide brooks. The guy should be in a homeless shelter bc he's a "BUM".
............As opposed to a guy like Bartel who's never even made an active roster, thrown an Nfl pass, dressed on gameday, or let alone ever started an NFL game.....:lmao2:

Those words might come back & haunt you.

Actually he has definitely sniffed the field, in 2005 he played in 11 games, in 2006 2 games, and 2007 he played in 5 games. He has a career completion percentage of 58.6% while throwing 8 TD's and 8 INT's.

he's Jason Campbell-esque

At least Bartel would be on the practice squad. Bollinger isnt worth a roster spot.

Like Romo, Bartel played at a division II school, I say give him another year to develop if we cant get Simms.

And yet the Jets, Vikings, and now Cowboys have all deemed Bollinger active Roster worthy. To date nobody has considered Bartel as being worthy of an active roster spot.

Here's another thing to consider-- in his NFL career, he has dropped back to pass nearly 300 times, and only got a pass off 200 times (to be exact, he's been on the field for 298 pass plays, and has only thrown 201 passes)... he's been sacked 46 times, and had to run 41 times... IOW, about every third time he dropped back, he wound up running for his life... one assumes that he was under some pretty heavy pressure on at least some of the 201 passes he was able to get off, too...
That has to be bad pass protection...at least to some extent. However, it also brings into question his ability to spot an open receiver quickly and possibly some problem with his mechanics (i.e. a slow release). While I have no doubt that he would do better behind our OL than he has done in the past I do not see those stats as a condemnation of his protection alone. There is still the possibility (probability?) that some of that was his own fault...poor mechanics, slow release, poor footwork, coverage recognition problems, problems spotting an open receiver...the list goes on.

However, to qualify my position I do admit that I have not seen him play very much and cannot personally say that any or those problems exist. Therefore I will come in off the ledge and trust that Jason Garrett knows what he sees and Hope that Jerrah is listening to him.

bear i can buy into your way of thinking, but all things remain equal, why was bollinger the one getting cut instead john david booty call or one of the other awful vikings qbs?

I'd say there's a fair to middling chance the Vikings don't have a clue when it comes to QBs...

Once again, there are some in here who are so unbelievably arrogant as to believe their quarterback evaluation skills are superior to Jason Garrett's...

Excuse me while I LMAO at that arrogance; if Garrett decides that Bollinger is the guy, I'll trust his judgement...

Except Bollinger seems to be progressing... again, look at his numbers the last two years; they're hardly "Jason Campbell-esque"... 67.6 completion percentage, 7.9 YPA, 84.0 quarterback rating...

Jerruh Jones is the GM not Garrett. You know, the guy that drafted Quincy Carter.

For me, It's not arrogance. I just don't like the idea. It is nothing against the player or the staff's thinking.

Well, let's see-- in their draft analysis of Bollinger coming out of college back in 2003, SI said:

Terrific athlete still learning the QB position. Sets up with solid footwork, patient and throws with an over the top delivery, following through on his passes. Natural looking off the safety, puts touch on his throws and smartly places the short passes. Goes to the safe underneath valve if nothing else is available. Gets outside the pocket and makes the throw on the move. Adequate arm strength and makes plays with his legs.

Doesn't sound like there's a problem with his mechanics or his footwork, or like he holds on to the ball too long, does it??

The few times I have seen him (and I am more than willing to admit I have only seen him a few times) I always liked him. I think he's getting unfairly bashed because a lot of fans already had their minds made up about who they liked and wanted for that job. Bollinger is a pretty solid player though.

I'm 100 per cent confident that Jerry will never make any decision at QB without Jason signing off on it...

You're also not claiming he's a bum, either... thus, I see no arrogance in your stance, even if I don't entirely understand it...

I'm telling myself that Jerry saw Colt McCoy play yesterday (man, he was BRILLIANT), and has now decided that he's gonna draft the kid when he comes out, to back up Tony and eventually replace him, years down the road... thus, he just needs a cheap stopgap...

If I can't get one Horns QB in here, I'm gonna get another, by Gawd... :D

As I said I have not seen him play enough to make a personal determination. I was only commenting on the interpretation of the stats...and stats do not provide the empirical answers that they are purported to give...they are always open to interpretation.

Bollinger couldn't cut it as the #3 QB on a QB starved team where his HC was his former college OC and brought him to Minny to begin with. You don't get a much better chance at a roster spot than that. Thanks but no thanks.
