How much can we really expect Bruce Carter to contribute this year?

Is the best we can hope for really special teams, and maybe some nickel packages if we're lucky?

We got him where we did because he is coming off an injury. Seems like we went through something like this with Lee last season. I'll happily take similar results.

LB Prospect for 2010 NFL Draft- Sean Lee – Penn StateIf it wasn't for the injury risk, Sean Lee could top this list of the 2010 NFL Linebacker class. He is a great talent that has always put up good numbers when healthy. NFL teams will be afraid of his knee problems but will give him a chance at the right price. Look for Lee to be drafted in the 2nd round.

I'm really dreaming of a player who could stop these passes to tight ends/running backs...

I hope the same guys evaluated Carter that picked Lee. Seems likely.

Yep, I'm not expecting much out of him. Just do whatever he can on special teams and make sure not to get hurt again and it will be a successful "redshirt" year.

So far this thread is a refreshing change from the instant gratification/entitlement crowd.

"So far" are the operative words here. With Brady's lackluster performance this past week, Carter's return might be welcomed sooner rather than later.

I'd be amazed if he contributes on defense this year... Although it seems like Rob is good at putting in little packages for everyone (like McCray as a blitzer).

Anything on d is a bonus this year.

This is a new year in terms of getting young guys on the field. I think it all depends on his health. Based on his athleticism, if he's healthy towards the middle or later parts of the season, I fully believe Ryan will get him on the field in some different packages.

I'd expect them to get in him as the year progresses in certain packages as well. If not, there is not as much of an advantage to bring him back this year. I think the idea is to ease him in little by little so he has some experience under his belt next year, when he'll likely be asked to compete for a starting job. I can't see Brooking or James coming back next year, certainly not as starters.

I think he can add a little spark used at the right and very limited times as he gets healthy.

that should be a strength of his, once he fully recovers, however, I am slightly worried that both Carter and Lee are smallish guys that would be better with a larger LB next to them to take on blocks.

I'm guessing the Cowboys will try to bring him in after the bye week...?

I dont know he had been under the reahab of wojick for almost 2 months. He been in the defensive meeting to atleast learn the defense in his head. maybe he brings more to the table than we think. Especially towards playoff time. Prossman

I think best we could hope for would be in nickle and dime packages which is actually a lot of snaps.

No way I saw one of his highlight videos and he is SO GREATE. I think he will make the all pro bowl and win the Superbowl!!!! He is the best LB every and Sean Lee is old and we need a new guyz!!1

Big difference Lee had an injury history, Carter was injured. You don't draft injured players in the second round.

So Sam Bradford should've been a third round pick?

Yep. Maybe he's a factor the last month of the season covering backs and tight ends in the nickel and of course on special teams.
