Post a link that the nfl wants a famly SAFE program. And that alternative or rock music isn't suitable.

I just see familys as a wide range of people. Not just one sect as you seem to portray.

Do I really need to? They keep things clean and because of it the games don't even carry parental guideline ratings.
It's been plenty evident with their embarrassment with Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, causing them to book 6 straight years of safe bands and artists way past their prime. In order: McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty, Springsteen, and The Who.

I mean, even before that they were picking safe bets and never really any modern rock musicians. And they likely never will because...

"While halftime shows are a tradition during football games at all levels of competition, the Super Bowl halftime show represents a fundamental link to pop culture, which helps broaden the television audience and nationwide interest."

... meaning they get a performer who safely appeals to a wide audience, or at least they try.

So they're going to go with something popular, or 'pop' that's also a safe family bet. By the very nature of the word, they are not going with something that's 'alternative'.

Ok, that's your take. That's why I use the mute button during halftime.

As for old rock bands past their prime....

Superbowl XL 2006 - The Rolling Stones. The group performed three songs: "Start Me Up", "Rough Justice", and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction". The show was viewed by 89.9 million people, more than the audiences for the Oscars, Grammys and Emmy Awards combined.

So people do like something other than safe pop music.

You don't think the rolling stones fall into that category?

Bruno Mars is one of the best performers going today. It's the biggest stage, and they want a big performer. Singing ability (although Mars can sing his butt off) has never been a deciding factor as to SB halftime shows. He's going to put on an outstanding show.

That is pretty safe pop music at this point. Satisfaction was revolutionary when it came out. Not so much in 2006.

Just a guess, but I think that the SB's demographic doesn't want to hear old, washed-up has-been's during halftime. I know I don't but also don't want to watch most of today's choices which include Bieber, Swift, Bruno(although he can sing), JLO, etc, etc.

I could not care less who plays, I rarely watch the performance anyways. That game has more women and children watching that any other, so I am sure the people in charge try to play to that demo rather than the older, male fans IMO.

Alternative rock wouldn't be a good choice because most wouldn't know who they were, me included. They want what is current and popular.

As long as The Black-Eyed Peas, Kanye and that punk Bieber never play there/again, I'll be happy :)

Ha! I'm not sure he won't be in jail by that time. That kid is trouble.

I'm guessing Miley didn't get a call.

Better than Miley I suppose

You do realize that they could still get Miley to be amongst the other performers that appear at halftime. Bruno Mars will just be the feature act. I am sure a guest "star" or two will appear on the stage.

I try to ignore such things in the hopes that what is just and good will prevail.

I like his song Locked out of Heaven, probably because it sounds like something from The Police.

Not sure if they're doing that any more. Apparently there was an incident the year Madonna headlined where M.I.A. allegedly flipped off a camera and some were outraged by it. Last year Beyonce was the only performer (with the other 2/3rds of Destiny's Child making an appearance).

We'll see, though.

lol. Rock n Roll. Doesn't matter what era they were from or their age. So you telling me if Morrison was alive today, then the Doors too would be considered pop?
