CZ homers told us all off season how it is not wise to spend money in FA and how the Giants defense would be horrible with overpaid FA like Jenkins and Vernon
And the Dallas offense had 15 possessions Sunday night...so by that metric they should have been above avg in points scored overall considering just how many possessions they had.

A bit of denial if you ask me. The Giants defense has given up slightly more points per game than the Dallas defense...which is now slightly below 19 ppg after last night. IOW, teams have been able to score as many points against the Giants as they have against the Cowboys.
You have to consider the role your offense plays in your defense's points per game average. PPG ignores the fact that all defenses don't face the same number of possessions in a game.

The Vikings and Giants rank 3rd and 6th in points per drive allowed. Dallas ranks 19th.

Thanks! Peeps around here said the Giants had a mediocre defense at best. Now after the game everyone is saying their defense is the real deal. I don't know what to believe
An almost useless stat...and I like FootballOutsiders. Dallas had 15 possessions...slightly more than normal, which means they should have scored more than normal. 1.99 (16th) vs 1.65 (6th)...you are talking about a difference of no more than 3 - 4 points over 12 possessions. Considering the effect of turnovers, it becomes even more useless.

If anything, you want to take the NET values, which factor both offense and defense...where Dallas was #2 going into New York.

You've got some reading to do about different metrics and their win correlations.

That pts allowed per drive seems to be the magical stat
That one, and passing efficiency stats like passer rating. Giants and Vikes are #2 and #3 in defensive passer rating. Dallas is 30th.

Our defense is nowhere near the level of the last two defenses we've faced.

He didn't take it off, but he probably wishes he did.

If last night is him not taking the game off, I shudder to think what he actually might do if he did.

Last night was god awful bad.

He was trying, probably too hard. Based on how ugly it was I'm thinking maybe he wished he'd just called in sick.

So against good defenses, we should expect to suck?

I thought we had an elite offense. The Browns moved it better than the Cowboys against that defense.

Our offense has exceeded the average points per drive allowed by every defense we faced after week one until the Viking game (and they were barely positive the week before against Washington). Over the past 3 games, our offense has scored fewer points per drive than Washington, Minnesota and the NYG have surrendered against all the teams they've played on average.

So while two of these defenses might be among the best in the league, our offense is none-the-less performing worse against them on a PPD basis than the average team the three have faced. That's not a good trend.

Because it is in their interest to find a reason for the dumpster fire disaster area that was the Dallas offense on Sunday night. A bit of denial if you ask me. IOW, teams have been able to score as many points against the Giants as they have against the Cowboys. Fact of the matter is that Romo is light years ahead of Prescott when it comes to a Steve Spagnulolo defense...and in his last 5 starts against the Giants he is 5-0, engineering 29.8 ppg.

Friendly FYI-Since Spagnuole rejoined the New York Giants as defensive coordinator on January 15, 2015, only one of those 5 wins you mentioned had Spagnuole as DC

Wow.

Dallas had 15 possessions last night. 12 went for 5 plays or less.

In the second half, Dallas had 7 possessions. They ran only 31 plays for 76 yards in the half.

Ugh.

Dak's last 3 game average- 15 of 26 for 166 yards 1 td and .66 ints

He hasnt broken 200 yards passing in a game once during that time.

Good point! I also though our offense was supposed to be elite.

Got a serious question.

  • We spend all of our money on the Oline, WR, QB, and TE.
  • The Giants spend most of their money on the Dline, CB, and QB
  1. We have lost to them twice. So is it overall better to build a team starting with the Dline? Is it better to spend more of your resources on defense?
  2. How do they spend all this money, yet still not have cap issues. They pay Eli, OBJ,Cruz, Vernon, snacks, Jenkins quite a bit of money.

Whoa, is that how it works? The Jets scored more points against the Seahawks than they did the Colts. I thought the Seahawks defense was supposed to be elite?

And the Niners blanked the Rams 28-0, while the Seahawks lost to the Rams 9-3. Obviously SF is better on offense and defense than Seattle.

I guess you learn something every day.

If you don't pay attention to the rest of the league, sure.

Teams play like crap, it happens. Even the best. Hell the Pats almost lost to the Jets a few weeks ago, they have a cupcake schedule

One of the most efficient QB's in the league the last few years (Wilson) just went out and threw 5 picks, leading to a complete blowout. And aside from Dallas they were the "class" of the NFC.

You could make legit arguments that the worst teams in football are better than the best if you're going to use a 1 game metric against common opponents. That's laughable bruh. Does anyone think the Seahawks still don't have an elite defense? Maybe not without ET, but they still gave up more points to the Rams than the Niners did with him. Which is why that's stupid.

This has been broken down in multiple threads, that you read. Anyone still saying this is being willfully ignorant/trollish. And anyone who quotes yard totals with no context as some sort of "point", probably knows as much about the game as the dump I just took.
