I don't care what he did a decade ago. It was a different league. The ATL defense wasn't even good.

But...you're still making my point. If he needs all of this talent to be a good DC, then he's not a good DC. He comes from the Jason Garrett school of lining up and beating them. He never schemed anything, and it always got exposed by offenses with levels of talent.

DQ will be a better HC than DC, I think. But he needs someone to do the X and O work.
So you want him to win in spite of not having linebackers and no interior presence? It’s not about “talent”. It’s about fielding a team properly. You can ignore the interior of your defense and say overcome it. That’s not how it works.

Him playing safeties at linebacker was not by choice. What other option did he have?
I am sure there were some street FA LB's that could have done better.

It was not like 14 years ago when they had so many injuries on the DL, they had like 18 different DL starting through the season, or something like that.
When Ryan was the DC.

I want to see him put players in position to succeed. He does not. I don't want to see a defense lose over and over again to the same thing.

They refused to give him any except Rashad Evans….

Lol Quinn was the only reason our defense became respectable. Led the league in turnovers in 2 of the past 3 seasons, and was in the top 5 in turnovers the one year we didn't. Our defense is taking a step back with estrogen filled Zimmer
:hammer: .....Zimmer got soft in Minnesota .....always playing not to lose with those damn soft zone coverages. Bend but don't break defenses....ALWAYS get you beat.

That same defense was exposed horribly by the Cardinals, 49ers, Bills, and Packers last year and was almost responsible for blowing the win over the Seahawks.

Teams that committed to running the football against Quinn's three safety scheme had their way with Dallas' defense.

Did he not? Did he not take a safety from a HBCU and put him in position to succeed?
No? If the LBs were so terrible then Bell wasn't a success story.

But that's not at all the point. He didn't scheme anything - every turnover, sack, etc was simply the result of the individual talent on that defense. It's not like he deployed any hard-to-diagnose coverages or blitz packages or made significant in-game schematic adjustments when something wasn't working.

Nah, it was teams that had multiple receiving threats who could beat man coverage consistently. The poor run defense was just a product of an overreliance on man coverage.

Bell was undersized and found himself in some compromising positions but he played well it was Clark and the other linebackers who didn’t play to their potential.

...or by playing a 205 pound safety (Markquese Bell) at middle linebacker instead of going out and getting an actual linebacker.

Ok fine. There were plenty of guys on the defense who had invidiaul success. It has nothing to do with the overall point of building a consistent winning defense.

I have no issue with being disappointed in Quinn. It’s troublesome the scapegoating of him as if for the last 20 years we haven’t complained about the linebacker and DY play.
