He came on today and said what was bothering him about yesterday and why he got heated.
He was putting on his GM hat and making the case that Jerry has to play Romo to see what
he has to do about the $23mil or so in dead money if Romo can't continue to play well. Brian
wants to know for sure what the decision is on Romo before completely committing to Dak
for this year. There is a decision to be made here and all know it. Jerry will make it
with the help of Jason and Stephen.

And I disagree with him completely there. Romo's been starting here for over ten years. They've seen him plenty to know what they have and what they don't. And they've seen him repeatedly injured and unavailable. Anybody who doesn't know at this point? Shame on them.

If you can get out from the contract, you do it. He talks about wanting to keep other players like Claiborne or Leary, or Martin, and then mentions a decision on Romo. It's an either/or deal. You either keep several other guys, or you keep Romo. And Dak's play is the most important factor in the equation, not whether a 36-year old quarterback coming off of multiple injuries still has one more season in him.

Everybody other than the Jones boys knew the '5-years' talk about Romo was complete nonsense. And in fact, they didn't get 5-minutes. If you can afford to get off of that expensive roller coaster, you do it. But it's about Dak's play, not Romo's.

Dak is certainly the future but, there might be a SB to
be had this year and having Romo in their back pocket if trouble comes could be handy.

Think Ron Leary folks!!!

There's not a feasible way to trade Romo this year even if they wanted to. Some media people might talk about it to drum up interest, but they're either unaware of the realities of the situation, or they ignore it because it prevents them from even starting the conversation.

Unless I'm misreading your post, I think you have BB's position incorrect. He wants to play Romo to find out if Romo can be the guy for 2017. If not, then you move the contract and can use the money to resign a few players.

I agree with you that if I was leading the Cowboys I would want to get out of Romo's contract no matter what this off season. However, Romo may be the best guy for this year when he's healthy. I think Dak has at least two more games before Romo is fully ready and it'll be interesting to see if his numbers start to decline each week as teams figure him out. I wouldn't be surprised if Dak keeps playing well and Romo is never fully "healthy" and never plays again for the Cowboys. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Dak starting hitting a wall in the next month and Romo comes in and relights the offense.

No matter who plays the rest of the year I would be VERY surprised if Romo is on this team in 2017.

We can agree that trading Romo before the trading deadline is a non-starter crafted by media talking heads. I also agree with you that there will be a decision sometime next spring concerning Romo and his position on the team. Jason and Stephen will look at the situation and recommend to Jerry whether to let Romo pick his next team like they did with DWare. If Romo does take over the team late this season and leads the team to at least the
NFC championship game, he will be on this team next year as well because Jerry is not going to let him go. If Romo can't play at his established standard, the decision will be easy for the FO. Jerry values offense and wants to have an elite one which commands a substantial portion of the cap. The Cowboys FO believes that you can win a SB with an average defense and only spending necessary cap space to maintain an average defense. Marinelli is doing a master job of developing this defense to be average and keep his "bend but don't break" mantra. We may not like that path but, Jerry and Stephen could care less what we think cause 90,000 fans storm the stadium every time the team plays.

I agree with what someone posted earlier in that I rarely watch Talking Cowboys anymore. I don't mind Mickey at all but he needs the right people around him. Rob Phillips is so blah as a host and Newton's style gets old fast. Both of those guys need better people around them on the show to work well and Rob doesn't cut it.

I love Bryan and Nick on the Break. They each bring unique insight. I think Taylor is maybe the most insightful female they've had on the show (that's not saying much) and seems to put in the time to add something to the show. The thing that gets old is Derek has little control of the show. He tries to cover a topic but then allows EVERYONE to interject, interrupt, and change topics at a whim. It seems they always start talking about a topic and then quickly they are chasing rabbits all over the place.

Derek had been hyping that this past Tuesday would be all about the quarterback situation. For weeks when someone on show would start talking about it Derek would say "That's a great question that'll we'll wait until the bye week to talk about" then he would let everyone start talking about it anyways. This happened multiple times . Then this past Tuesday when Derek wants to talk about the topic, they have nothing new to say. He also said they wanted to get to a lot of phone calls and they took exactly ONE call in the first two segments ... but somehow they still had time for Taywhat. Seriously? Ugh!

I loved the Draft Show this week because Bryan does a great job of hosting it. It's fast paced, no fluff, and he brings on good people. Dane and Jeff are very informed while Dave, who I'm not a big fan of, does do his homework.

If I was put in charge of the Cowboys media, I would move Derek to host The Break. I think he would do a good job of bringing out the best in Mickey and Newton. I'd also move Taylor to the Break and let that be the more relaxed show like the both shows are now. I would let Broadus host The Break and let that be a more serious football show when you get into the details of the game such as scouting the opponents, how the defensive line is rotating, the other NFC east teams, etc. I would have to bring in another informed football guy like a Jeff Cavanaugh or Bob Sturm to work with Bryan. You really need three football guys to carry that show but right now Bryan is the only one one staff who could do it.

I understand it, I just totally disagree with it. If Dak can be the guy, he should be the guy. If you can get out of a huge contract for an injury prone, aging player, you do it.

I don't see what anyone still needs to 'see' from Romo.

I don't think there's any mystery teams will "figure out" about Prescott. Unless he gets hurt or starts costing the team multiple games, I see no reason to change anything. I know that sucks for Romo, but it's about what's best for the organization over any one player.

No matter who plays the rest of the year I would be VERY surprised if Romo is on this team in 2017.

Agreed. That's why I'm not rushing to change anything.

I agree that they will try to do what they can for Romo as a 'thank you', but the team's best interests will come first. But he's not going anywhere this year, regardless.

I don't agree with your premise. I don't think there has been a conscious effort to short change the defense or decisions made in selling tickets over winning.

Maybe not a conscious effort as you say but, a new philosophy of not mortgaging the future to go after high dollar FA in the spring. We both
think that they need a dynamic RDE but they couldn't find one in the draft and they wouldn't commit to spending the money in FA. I think they
will error on the side of maintaining this OL at elite level at the detriment of all else on the team. It's okay if we don't always agree as its fun
to just hear opinions that have some validity...

Shame on who? You can't even get your fact straight.

Let me spell it out for you. Factually.

Up until the age of 35 Romo has started 113 of 128 games...nearly 90%. He's played with all manner of injury and played well. This is well beyond the average of starting quarterbacks in terms of avoiding injuries...or just playing through them.

The dude is tough as nails and has missed far fewer games than most players miss.

He's been an elite quarterback and a clutch quarterback and has done it the right way on and off the field.

Those are the facts. If you want to say that here recently he's been injured a lot and he is getting older--yes that would be factually correct.

After listening to some of the nonsense Tony bashers write--especially witnessing Clove repeatedly poop his diaper last night-- I start second-guessing my support of Dak as starter. I still stand with Dak but geesh.

Broaddus forgets that communication is two-way, and he skips the listening part. He jumps to conclusions as to what someone else's point is, and puts words in their mouth, rather than actually listening to what they are saying. Whether its a caller, fan, or fellow host, he doesn't listen. He will interrupt and say "so what you're saying is ..." and be dead wrong about their point.

He often doesn't finish a sentence while speaking either. Keeps starting thoughts, and interrupting himself. Just like he does with other people, he even interrupts his own sentences. Count how many times he does this, its surprising how many times he starts a thought and interrupts himself.

Also cares too much about being right, to the point where really nobody cares and its annoying.

I agree with this criticism. He could definitely improve and would be more likable as a person and more enjoyable. It's a flaw of a lot of the world's talkers have. He does seem to be a talker.

Mickey pisses me off. its his way or no way. and does anyone else get annoyed when nate has literally no patience w callers? theyre 10 seconds in and nate is moaning and signaling to cut it.

i think the break is a lot better, overall. they let fans speak with the small amount of calls they take.

I understand the frustration but At least Broaddus will admit when he is wrong although sometimes you have to rub his face in it to get him to do so. Most men I know cannot do that unless approached in a very delicate way.

I don't disagree with you.

It's been almost a month since I said Dak should be the starter and principally because of Tony's age and health. It's 1 in 200 than a quarterback is any good at age 35 and beyond.

If I could be convinced that romo could be physically healthy and fit and strong enough at this age...I'd change my vote and run with Romo. Just don't see it.

Dak is a better choice right now from my limited perspective. I'm not a coach or a scout. I can't watch the two in practice or in play and evaluate them based on all the factors that one more insightful can.

I just go heavy on fans who fail to appreciate the greatness that we've enjoyed at quarterback since Romo got the job and speak falsely of his tenure.

I watch both shows and they both have thier unique styles. There are some days when they all flow well together and others when they don't. I like the Break better than Talkin' Cowboys.

Most of the time I'm pretty open with the different personalities of the show and it doesn't bother me. However, I did watch an episode of The Break a few weeks back where I swear Nick and Tay were texting with each other the whole show. Kept picking up their phones and just straight giggling and laughing in the middle of Bryan or Derek talking. It was kind of rude and pretty obvious. Look, if they wanna flirt.......cool, but they might want to do it off air/camera.

Total, complete, utter ********. Don't use the word "factually" and then try to pass off this crap. No other starting quarterback has come close to missing the number of games Romo has, none! There's "factually" for you. And none of your 'selective facts' or 'most players' nonsense changes that - nice try though but nobody's buying what you're trying to sell.

He's been an elite quarterback and a clutch quarterback and has done it the right way on and off the field.

"Been" sure. No disputing that.

Anyone paying attention knows the "facts" about Tony Romo, the good, the bad, and the ugly injury history. Whenever you want to, we can compare his games missed to any of the other starters in the league if you want to look even worse.

You just let me know.

Broaddus is a fat slob of an idiot and was ALWAYS a terrible scout.
