There is little doubt that crossing routes, (slants and digs) seem to be a better percentage route for Dez' success. The problem is that if Dez doesn't run the route right it is a pick 6 the other way. I think that's why we don't see them very often. Dez is bad enough at running them and protecting the ball that you don't want the other team sitting on that play.
Regardless of route, Dez has been much better than his teammates on short-to-intermediate targets over the middle. Over the last two seasons, he's had 32 targets without an INT, and averaged over 9 yards per target. In fact, there hasn't been an incomplete pass to Dez in this part of the field since week 2 in Denver. In the last seven games, Dak is 8 of 8 to Dez on throws over the middle inside 15 yards, with 6 first downs and a TD at 10.2 yards per attempt.

Prescott's Targets, 2016-17
Middle of field, less than 15 yards

Bryant 23 of 32 (72%) 290 yd (9.1 ypa) 3 td 0 int 130.9
all others 67 of 95 (71%) 593 yd (6.2 ypa) 3 td 2 int 88.6
other WR 28 of 41 (68%) 292 yd (7.1 ypa) 2 td 2 int 84.6

Even so, Bryant has only received 29% of the non-RB targets in this area of the field in 2017, compared to 49% of Prescott's 15+yard targets.

I just reviewed 24 passing plays by the Cowboys in the Atlanta game. Dez was doubled 2 times and 1 of those was by a LB.

Stop stating facts. You are ruining the narrative that he is doubled on every play. You killjoy!!!

I'm not disputing the quoted stats but I am also not sure what you are suggesting that they mean. I alluded to the fact that they are Dez' most successful routes by far and I think your stats are backing that up.

Dez doesn't seem to run a lot of those routes. The coaches know the same information we do, plus some. So there is a reason they don't run those routes more frequently, other than stupidity. Dez has historically rounded off those dig routes which caused Romo to get pissed off to no end.

Stats don’t matter when it comes to supporting Dez. In Dez threads, Dak is a terrible QB.

In every other thread, Dak is elite and as good as Wentz.

Dez fans crack me up.

The Dez Fan Bois refuse to consider any evidence that Dez is anything other than all that and a bag of chips.

The idea is to exploit what's working on offense until you reach the point of diminishing returns. I'd go to Dez over the middle inside 15 yards more often until it started being much, much less worthwhile, and at the same time do just the opposite beyond 15 yards.

Yeah. On paper that's a great idea. Past history indicates it may not be quite that simple. But there is no denying he is more effective on those routes.

Last time we had this discussion, you said that play action to Butler was a go route and not a drag route, trying to make the argument Butler’s catches are all on go routes..

My goodness, do you even watch the games? Much of the time Dez is one on one and still can't get open. What about those plays? Are we to ignore them because they are an inconvenient truth?

You mean go routes the easiest route to defend?

It’s simply wrong. Romo through a better go routes, which is why even TWill was top 3 in catches on those routes. Romo challenges the field deep, his only issue was his incompetent OC that could never establish a good running game, until he was benched as OC. And these numbers in the following link was when Dallas was BOTTOM four in passing attempts.

Last year, the go routes for both TWill and Dez were their worst routes with Dak and he got that with Zeke and the play action and there most successful routes, INCLUDING with Dez were slants and drags and he caught them well over 60%. Hardly a case for somebody that can’t do then. For BOTH TWill and Dez, with respect to the go routes Dak was connecting in the 20 and 30 percentile respectively..

The reality is Dez is asked to challenge the field deep on go routes, but that isn’t Dak’s strength. Dez in drag’s and slants would get him much better production but whether the team is willing to ‘compromise’ the passing system is a question..

No, I said Butler had 11 go routes and you said the rest IIRC.

Dez doesn't get open. That's really where the analysis can end. Turn out the lights. The party's over. The rest is just window dressing and excuses for Dez' several year slump.

Bryant 23 of 32 (72%) 290 yd (9.1 ypa) 3 td 0 int 130.9
all others 67 of 95 (71%) 593 yd (6.2 ypa) 3 td 2 int 88.6
other WR 28 of 41 (68%) 292 yd (7.1 ypa) 2 td 2 int 84.6

Dez tends to screw up the flow of other player's routes when he is is the middle area. Many times I've seen him end up in the same spot as another receiver which always means 1 of them screwed up. I never see any other two Cowboys end up in the same spot which likely indicates Dez is the one screwing up his route.

Dez probably run 35+ pass routes game. If he had 32 catches in that area of the field over since 2016, his number a bad routes could quickly surpass 32 in just a few games if they give him a high percentage of those routes.

The go type routes make it impossible for him to screw up the routes of other players.

Basically you don’t address the actual numbers and just make stuff up.. even the numbers provided by other posters on this forum, you obfuscate by saying things like “I’m not sure they mean what you think they mean” other than Dez is supposedly stupid..

The run those because it’s Coryell and they ran that many routes with TWill and with Escobar when Romo was QB.. even the latter was among top TEs and he wasn’t even a primary target in the Cowboys passing game.. Dez, TWill and Escobar..

And TWill even with Dak was running significant go routes, over 60% of Dez amount of go routes in the stats in that link and Dak only connected in the twentieth percentile, less than Dez...

Just stop...

Another fake narrative that Romo was pissed pff at Dez. That’s why the only Cowboys game he did, he was blaming the passes to Dez..

If I said 3 were not then how does that relate to a route in AZ?

You said the route in Arizona was a GO ROUTE.. how hard is that to comprehend.. that means your analysis of what is a go route and when Dez is allegedly double on what type of play is really questionable..
