Quarterback (2)

Dak Prescott
Will Grier

Running back (4)

Ezekiel Elliott
Tony Pollard
Rico Dowdle
Malik Davis IMHO, has earned a spot, I may even like him better than Rico

Wide receiver (7)

CeeDee Lamb
Michael Gallup I think he will be ready by game 3 so no reason not to be on 53
KaVontae Turpin
Dennis Houston
Noah Brown
Jalen Tolbert
*Simi Fehoko/James Washington I think he is now the bubble man when Washington is ready.

Tight end (3)

Dalton Schultz
Jake Ferguson
Sean McKeon

Offensive line (8)

Tyron Smith
Tyler Smith
Tyler Biadasz
Zack Martin
Terence Steele
Connor McGovern
Matt Farniok
Matt Waletzko

Interior defensive line (5)

Neville Gallimore
Osa Odighiuzuwa
Trysten Hill
Quinton Bohanna

Dorance Armstrong

Linebacker (5)

CB CJ Goodwin

Safety (4)

Jayron Kearse

Special teams (3)

K Brett Maher

I would move on from Dowdle. His roster spot is too valuable for his talent level.

We don't need a fourth TE, & we should try to convince Waletzko to have surgery & come back strong in 2023 (apparently the issue has been bothering him on-and-off since college).

I like keeping a bunch of CBs & seeing what shakes out as the season goes on, particularly w/Lewis hurt, but I think we can roll w/four safeties & try to sign Bell to the practice squad. We can then keep Ball, LVE, & Gifford, & still bring in a vet OT at swing tackle, which frankly was a necessary move before Waletzko got hurt.

We could need a 4th TE, depending on what Schultz does next year. I can rationalize that.

What I have a hard time justifying is keeping 3 RBs. I like them all. I just don't think you can keep them all.

I'm tempted to go long at CB, too, in my imaginary 53. But if you're going to keep extra players, it makes more sense to do it along the defensive line where fresh bodies can have an advantage.

Still, we only get to suit 45 on gameday, and those defensive linemen aren't always the best STers, usually.

Quarterback (2)
Dak Prescott, Will Grier

Running back (3)
Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, Malik Davis, going with Davis here, he looks faster and has some juice and seems like more power

Wide receiver (6), 7 once Gallup and Washington return, unless Houston or Fehoko not doing well or playing much, or a need at other positions.
CeeDee Lamb, Noah Brown, Jalen Tolbert, James Washington, then moved to short term IR
KaVontae Turpin, Simi Fehoko
Dennis Houston, goes to PS once Gallup returns
*Michael Gallup, stays on PUP and misses 4 games

Tight end (3)
Dalton Schultz, Jake Ferguson, Sean McKeon

Offensive line (9)
Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Zack Martin, Terence Steele
Connor McGovern, Matt Farniok, Matt Waletzko, Josh Ball, yes he makes it for some reason

Interior defensive line (5)
Neville Gallimore, Osa Odighiuzuwa, Trysten Hill, Quinton Bohanna, Carlos Watkins
John Ridgeway to PS

EDGE (6)
DeMarcus Lawrence, Sam Williams, Dante Fowler, Tarell Basham, Dorance Armstrong, Chauncey Golston

Linebacker (6)
Micah Parsons, Jabril Cox, Anthony Barr, LVE, Devin Harper, Malik Jefferson

Cornerback (6)
Trevon Diggs, Anthony Brown, Jourdan Lewis, Kelvin Joseph
CJ Goodwin, mainly for ST's, as I keep on waiting for him to go, he offers nothing at CB
Nahshon Wright, I hope he goes, but draft stays they keep him, hoping Bland replaces him or at least Goodwin.

DaRon Bland, I hope he makes it, but depends on what I stated above. I like him, but I think we as fans ar win that..looks great is PS games mode.

Safety (4)
Jayron Kearse, Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, Israel Mukuamu

M. Bell, I really want to add Bell, but who goes in place of him. Possibly one of the OL or DL, Maybe a LB in Harper or Jefferson.

Special teams (3)
K Brett Maher, P Bryan Anger, LS Jake McQuaide

Closest Ive seen to being realistic. Some changes Id make.

QB and RB - Check. I really like Davis and think he could give us something in ST.

WR - Think they look hard at finding someone after cuts that has a couple years exp. That sends Houston to PS. I'd let Washington walk at this point. I also treat Turpin as more of a replacement to Goodwin as our ST exception. Plus he gives us more potential upside on defense than Goodwin does on defense.

TE - I think they keep Hendershot. So they go 4. Have to plan for next year when Shultz walks.

OL - Agreed except if Waletzko is hurt. He may get redshirted. Ball hasnt been as bad as the experts here think. You don't let him walk. He needs more time for sure, but has ability. Our swing tackle is most likely Smith. This is another area we will be looking at come cut time. If we can find a potential swing tackle. But EVERY team is looking for a capable one as well.

IDL - Id let Watkins walk and keep Ridgeway. I also look at Gholston as more inside than out at this point. So go 6 deep here.

DE - I go 4 here. Law, Arm, Sam and Fowler. Micah and Barr will get a lot of reps here as well. Plus Gholston can play in a pinch.

LB - Go 5 here. No Jefferson. We like our safeties to play that hybrid lb role ie Kearse. Meaning more snaps for safeties.

CB - Goodwin gets cut. We keep Bland and Wright.

Safety - We keep Bell as well. Too much upside.

I can't see 4 LBs and I'm not sure we need 6 WRs when Gallup would make #7 after a month and we cut one any way. Figure out who you like between Brown and Houston and maybe even Fehoko and just cut one. If it were me I'm cutting Houston unless he is better than one of the other two on STs and I don't think he is. I saw him running down the other night but not actually making the play.

I'm not sure we will carry 4 TEs, but wouldn't be surprised if we did either. The top 3 are locks.

I think Waletzko goes to IR so maybe he is on for a day and then we bring someone else back. I do agree on the player to be named OL. We need a swing tackle. Hopefully it won't be Ball.

I think we keep Goodwin for one more year, but if there are enough other players who have been good enough on STs and who also provide a better chance to start on D we may cut him at some point. I think those other guys are better fits for the PS and to be called up if injury strikes.

They typically carry 5 DEs. So who is making it over Golston?

Also note, they are playing Golston at DT in certain situations, so he has some value beyond just DE.

EDIT: Totally missed that he didn't have Basham in there. Hmmmmm.
I don't really see the point in keeping Basham. He is down the rotation, and wasnt effective last season. May as well give that spot to someone cheaper and with development traits.

They'll only carry 3 TEs and move Hendershot to the PS.
They might try to sneak Houston on the PS too. They need to keep a few spots open for Gallup and Washington when they're healthy.

Helman must have gotten aced by LVE at practice or something . . . asked a stupid question and LVE gave him a stupid answer.

Poor little guy . . . no matter how hard he wishes he still has that obvious short man complex.

My list changes between breakfast and lunch!!!

Also, I think you only have 52. Looks like you put a "6" next to DT but only listed 5?

various Gallup stuff:
1. Gallup has been targeting week 3 which is 7 months post surgery.
2. He'd prefer to not be PUP'd because that means he has to work away from team outside the building until week 5.
3. He is running routes and I think you'd like to get him practice time with Dak for a few we4eks before he plays.
4. I suspect Gallup would be fine physically come week 3-4 but I am def concerned about the mental aspect.
5. Not all human bodies heal and recover the same. We really should stop assuming there is a hard and fast timeline for any one person.

If they were going to cut LVE, they would play him in the preseason games hoping he looks good enough to trade. I just do not see them cutting him now and keeping Barr who has maybe 1 year left in him. The will find a way to keep him. Maybe carry one less safety? Or cut CJ Goodwin. It makes no sense to cut a player like LVE just to keep a special teams player.

Parsons is an Edge now essentially so no they aren't cutting LVE.
Barr is a mix of edge/LB. Cox is a 2nd year guy with no experience.

Goodwin has been released 3-4 times and brought back so they aren't that worried about exposing him short term and bringing him back imo.

Grier will not be the backup that belongs to Rush unless a veteran gets cut from somewhere and the Cowboys end up signing him.

The thing with Rush is Dak loves him, he knows the system and he did beat Minny last year.
Grier sure looks like the more talented guy but sometimes it is about what you do when you don't play.

That's next year, ...next year is next year's problem or dilenma.

And a mere 4th TE is a dime a dozen. Thats' a fifth wheel and nuthin to plan for now.

What Ferguson, the 2nd TE here, shows and does this year impacts what eventually becomes of Schultz's next year. Not the 4th TE.

Instead of Wilson, I actually lean Tyler Coyle there. He has quietly been good and always available. I like his fight and he is NEVER where he shouldn't be. Wilson hasn't done a thing in camp either. This will be a surprise cut.

Coyle does not appear to be a ball hawk guy and ability to create turnovers, the way Wilson has shown he can be.
Even as a rookie, Donovan was already showing that.
Don't recall that from Coyle.

And Hooker hasn't done a thing in " camp" either .. Should we be cutting him too ?
