One thing that Parcells was good at was tempering down enthusiasm. We already have this guy as ROY, rushing champion, TD leader, perennial pro-bowler, in the ROH, and HOF. Of course he has yet to take a snap.
Emmitt was seen as a success with 900 yards in his first season. It took him 6-7 games to get his footing and he had a great oline as well. With Morris, DMC, and co, getting acclimated to the NFL as well as the team 800-1100 would be a good season that I hope isnt looked down upon.

So true. Through 11 games, Emmitt had 522 yards on 144 carries (3.6) and 4 TDs. Should we all have labelled him a bust and moved on?

I agree completely. I think it would be a mistake to run Zeke over and over while letting the other running backs collect rust on the sidelines. This team has a wealth of running back riches. While I'm all for having Zeke be the number one guy and steamroll over teams via the run, we've got some quality running backs in McFadden, Morris, etc. Use them. It can keep Zeke fresh. Then even a good defense will be tired by the 4th quarter. If we're smart with ball control this year, I see us winning the games that are close in the 4th quarter.

I just watched a 2008 Cowboys game versus the 49ers on Youtube. Our running backs were Marion Barber and Tschard Choice. Felix Jones was unavailable due to injury. We had an okay O-line, but one Romo had to bail out by scrambling. It wasn't anywhere near the package we've got now. I hope our run game/ball control offense makes other teams' D-coordinators dread playing us.

Garrett has never shown the ability to use 2 rbs effectively.

We will run Elliot into the ground and he will hit a wall around December I'm sure.

This poor kid. If he fails to rush for 2000 yards next year, fans will be disappointed.

His critics will for me does he help this team win games? If he is out there making plays and helping this offense put up points and win games then to me that is what will matter. I always see in all sports that in key moments of the game when the team needs a big play that is when the star players rise to the occasion and make that play. Will Zeke?

I fully expect our coaching staff to over-use him to the point that he is almost worthless come playoff time (assuming we make it). I hope our staff will take advantage of Morris early and often. Keep the long-term goal in mind...

Emmitt had no training camp because they didn't agree to a contract until right before the start of the season. Didn't start game 1. The OL was not considered great until after they had success with Emmitt.

I certainly wont.....and I am not expecting Super Man, In fact, I seriously doubt we get that.....

But you make some very, very good points. BP wouldn't have all this talk....he would find "something" to put him in his place. Which is a ROOKIE!!!!

Even with a healthy Romo and Dez Bryant in 2014, the Cowboys lacked a glamour piece in the running game to open up holes in the defense.

This quote from the article I find strange. Did he really just totally discard Murray in his opinionated article?

I noted that too. I guess he was saying Murray was not considered a superstar, but it would have been good for him to elaborate on his comment.

Nice catch.

Also boo hoo at Zeke having "unfair" expectations. The dude was the number 4 overall pick in the draft and is in the single best running back situation in the entirety of the National Football League.

With great power comes great responsibilities.

I don't want Zeke to get to 2k yards because that will be him getting too many carries. But if he's given the type of workload Murray got 2 years ago...he better go ahead and hit that number.

The thing is...Garrett DID early in his career. It just seems like once Marion Barber started to decline, he forgot how to use multiple backs.

I remember Julius/Barber having a good year with Garrett as well as Felix/Barber/Choice.

He never did with Barber either. Barber just finished half's for us.

Felix Jones.. That was awful.

We've never done well at rotating backs in and out during a series. We just give the backup a series every now and then.

You watch teams all throughout the league successfully use a RBC but not here.

Emmitt was so long ago that I don't know how relevant it is. Different era.

I call it like I see it. I think Elliott and Gurley will be the dominant RBs in football for the next 10 years.

Parcells was good at a lot of things. One of them being cleaning up the laughing stock mess the Jones twins had the Cowboys in years ago.

i dont think it was that much different when Emmitt was around. In fact we're copying the offense.

Hope your right about Gurley/Zeke. That would be great for us

Glamour piece? As if 1,850 yds were subpar lol

Now if he had said home run threat then ok...

Yeah, there is a lot of revisionist history regarding Emmitt's rookie year. Maybe people have just forgotten that he missed all of training camp and that the line, before he arrived, was (to paraphrase Nate Newton) just a bunch of fat guys.
