If he does turn out like ap or something it would suck to see him leave Dallas after his rookie deal.

One thing that Parcells was good at was tempering down enthusiasm. We already have this guy as ROY, rushing champion, TD leader, perennial pro-bowler, in the ROH, and HOF. Of course he has yet to take a snap.
Emmitt was seen as a success with 900 yards in his first season. It took him 6-7 games to get his footing and he had a great oline as well. With Morris, DMC, and co, getting acclimated to the NFL as well as the team 800-1100 would be a good season that I hope isnt looked down upon.

Parcels did a great job of tampering expectations. Most folks here bought into it and expect us to suck every year. I think Parcell's reducing expectations was to protect his reputation when he failed to turn the franchise around. Now weveryone has the mindset that we are going to lose.

How about raise expectation and making the players and coaches live up to them? If you expect 8-8, you will get 8-8.

What is that?

For me my expectations are not as lofty as others. I am not saying he can not get there but all we have to do is look at the stats for all the great ones. I just don't see Zeke putting up monster numbers in his rookie year.

I just don't see this guy as a once in a generation running back. His best trait is his versatility. He doesn't really excel at one thing. I liked the pick and I think he'll be a good, solid player, but I don't expect him to be great.

Emmitt was so long ago that I don't know how relevant it is. Different era.

I call it like I see it. I think Elliott and Gurley will be the dominant RBs in football for the next 10 years.

Next years crop of RB's might have something to say about that...

I dont really have any totals in mind as far as yards go.

I do expect him to break some long runs, and a few for TD's
I do expect him to get key yards when they need it, like 3rd and 2, or inside the 5.
I do expect him to do as good as murray, just not get that many carrys.
I do expect him to catch a lot a passes and run after catch.
I do expect him to not fumble, and pass block good, since he has that rep on both.
I do expect him to help the team win games doing whatever.

If he does more than that great ! but I am not expecting any specific yard totals or avg.

14. Ezekiel Elliott will be the top running back this year.
Not top rookie running back, top fantasy running back. I don't want this to come off as, "Hey anybody can thrive behind the Cowboys offensive line." But pretty much. He's going to challenge Eric Dickerson's rookie record. Dude (and I mean this in a gender-neutral way as I even call my nieces dude), think of it this way: Todd Gurley owned last year. He was coming off an injury and played for a team with no high-caliber offensive talent and a coach who might not know what he's doing. Elliott is healthy and behind the best line in the business.

5. Dez Bryant returns as a top-five wide receiver.
But Tony Romo is fragile. Uh, sure. Football is dangerous. But Romo and the Cowboys are going to be good this year. Don't underestimate how much Elliott is going to improve the passing game, just by being on the field.

This poor kid. If he fails to rush for 2000 yards next year, fans will be disappointed.

On a Commanders message board, a prominent member there said that if Elliott doesn't rush for 3,000 yards, it was a complete waste of the 4th pick to use it on him.

Seriously.

Most of them were saying the same thing (although they weren't saying 3,000... more like 2,000). And some Cowboy fans here wonder why sometimes people here think they are really Washington/NY/Philly fans when they say the same kind of thing.

I would much rather have the next Marshall Faulk than the next Adrian Peterson.

The Cowboys didn't have a great line in 1990. They didn't even have a great line in 1991. Early in 91 they gave up 11 sacks in a game against the Eagles - that sound like a great line? They had absolute scrubs in there in 1989 and were just starting to form the basis of the line in 1990 when Emmitt arrived. Emmitt's season was seen as a success because the Cowboys RBs totalled 1031 rushing yards in 1989 while averaging 3.5 ypc. In 1990 the Cowboys were building the foundation for a line, with a couple of key players assuming starting roles, but they were a LONG way from being a great line, they weren't even a good line yet. In 90 they had aspirations of being average.

Oh, and they had a terrible offensive coordinator in 1990 as well.

What the hell is that? Honestly, those people have no clue. Remember, you can get a Vegas bet on the over/under rushing yards on Zeke and that number stands at 900. That's an average of 56 yards a game.

I'm gonna lay some cash down on that before the season starts. The only way he doesn't get it is injury or he's the biggest bust since Tony Mandrich.

Sounds great but when has it ever happened?

If healthy, 1250 yards and 8 tds. The other backs (Morris, McFadden, etc.) for another 1000 combined and 7 tds
