News: BTB: Dallas Cowboys Free Agency Focus 2015 : Nick Fairley Could Be Upgrade Over Nick Hayden

Again no thanks.... Can't stay on the field, already got a couple of those on defense! (Lee and Claiborne)

Your point about Fairley maybe not being a #1 DT has some merit. Injuries are a good point also.

Lack of production... I don't get that one.

Hayden last two seasons: 1,525 snaps, 0 sacks, 11, QB hits, 26 hurries.

Fairly last two seasons: 990 snaps, 8 sacks, 17 QB hits, 38 hurries.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Brent be the starting #1 DT for the Cowboys in '15.

I could see Fairly (or Paea) spending some time there and rotating at the #3 with Crawford.

That's an average of 4 sacks a season for a 3 tech. Lack of production does not mean no production. Comparing Fairley to Hayden is apples to oranges.

I guess you don't take into consideration the number of snaps he played.

1 sack for every 123 snaps is very good for the DT spot.

I thought he was a nose tackle not a 3-4 DE.

I pulled up some games from the end of 2013 (Raji didn't play in 2014) and when they were in a true 3-4, Raji was most often at DE with Ryan Pickett at NT.

Dang, a lot of Hayden hating on this thread. He might not be the most athletic DT, but I'd put him close to the top in terms of effort and reliability. One of the few DL who has never missed a game as a Cowboy.

That said I'd def take Fairley over him.

Yes, ability to stay on the field is an issue. Fairley has missed a significant number of games and has never played 16 in a season.

That could be.

But it will be less of an overpayment than the amount paid to Suh.

I don't know. Suh is such a great player that is will be hard to overpay him. He has only missed 2 games of a possible 81 in his career. That is 79 starts in 81 possible games. Also, he plays a high percentage of the snaps. He played 81% of the snaps against the Cowboys. In game 1 of 2014 Suh played 83% of the snaps and Fairley played 52%.

If the price is right Sure. Get Fairley and Paea and that's a good rotation at the 1 tech.

He has a bit of an injury history but that just happens. He'd be a very strong player here.

He has missed 18 games so far in his first 4 seasons -- an average of 4.5 per season.

He misses more games per season (4.5) than he has sacks per season (3.4).

He is already 27 years old.

It <is> a possibility that he could be healthier in Dallas than Detroit, however, I kinda wonder about Fairley.

I guess I've never been that impressed with the guy -- his production has been big time disappointing -- especially considering he has played between Suh and Ziggy Ansah.

Two 5s don't equal a 10

I would rather have Suh and an UDFA

We build a rotation. Suh is going for a record deal. We can't afford him. We still have to think about resigning crawford. He only has 1 year left.

Crawford is a nice, up and coming player, but isn't in Suh's area code

If you're not signing Suh because you might not have money for Crawford you're doing something wrong

Fairley gets injured a lot and has a reputation of being lazy. The Linval Joseph 5/$31M contact from last year is probably minimum of what Fairley is going to get. Personally, that's just a little too much for a 1 tech with ?'s.

Unless we hear Krispy Kream is going out of business, I'll pass on fatty Fairly.

If we're going to overpay in free agency let's get the dominant Suh and not the guy who doesn't work hard, is always injured and played next to a dominant tackle.
